Early tantrams

My son is 10 months old and gets very angry and frustrated quickly. I know they get frustrated because they can't communicate yet but how do you deal with it? Are you suppose to just ignore them?
     When he gets angry he tries to hit etc, he even bit his own arm this morning until it made him cry. It makes me nervous about the 'terrible 2's', so really want to get a handle on this now.
