Fertility Associates is New Zealand’s leading provider of reproductive medicine and is committed to a range of research activities including how better to support couples through making the decision to seek medical help and treatment. As part of this effort they are currently taking part in the World Fertility Survey.
The survey is conducted by Dr Jacky Boivin and Dr Laura Bunting from Cardiff University (UK) with a grant from Merck-Serono International S.A., and Fertility Associates (www.fertilityassociates.co.nz) have agreed to assist with promoting this survey in the New Zealand market.
The objective of the survey is to understand the decision making process of couples looking to conceive around seeking medical help and treatment. Today, in New Zealand about one in five couples experience conception difficulties. However, only 40% of them would seek medical advice within the first few months of discovering there is a problem and a 1/4 of women affected by infertility may never have children. We would like to understand what prevents couples from achieving their dream of becoming parents and how the situation can be improved.
The scale of the survey is unprecedented. It is being placed online in US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, India, China, Australia, New Zealand and Japan to gain a truly global understanding of the issue. In the New Zealand market, we are looking to attract 400 respondents to this survey.
