A Tantrum for Two!

The day started well,
All loaded and ready,
The car started up,
And the nerves were steady.
Toddler in the back all buckled in tight,
Thankgoodness her mood reflects the fact that she slept all night!
Two shops to visit,
This should be a breeze,
Most other days are hectic,
So this should be easy - please!
We arrive at the store,
The excitement is clear,
Forget the stroller,
I'll do anything i can to avoid the tear!
Given a chance to walk in her shoes,
"Hold my hand",
We walk in twos.
Just a few things we need inside,
Choose an item I'll let you hold,
"Now we must not open until they are sold".
The look on her face is beginning to sour,
I know i don't have much time to assert my power!
"Now you listen here, i have told you once, there is no need to cry,
You will not get your own way,
No matter how hard you try!"
The packet is dropped,
The tears start to flow,
Oh please dont do this,
Or we will have to go.
The nerves are real & the worry is true,
The terrible twos are more terrible than you knew!
Screams & squeels bounce off the walls,
You walk away and pray that she answers your calls!
"Come here now & dont be silly!", you shout in shame,
Continueing on repeating her name.
You feel defeated,
As the screams dont stop,
All you can do is think....,
"Get me out of this shop!"
Take a breath, the stares dont hurt,
They dont mean a thing,
To lighten the mood you begin to sing..
You hum in your head a soft sweet song,
And then you believe that nothing is wrong.
Is it just me? Is it just my child?
But deep down you know it is all the same,
For all thoses mothers who hide in shame.
The performance is done and she stands up tall,
She realises quick that her antics havnt worked at all!
The packet remains closed,
Mums words were firm,
I didnt get my own way,
Even when she watched me squirm!
Tears wiped away and my sweet child comes running,
The change in behaviour is nothing but stunning!
It only lasts a minute,
The pain and the shame,
The important lesson is - ,
Dont play the game!!
The day is over,
All is quiet and the tantrums are all done,
well at least i can say...,
Untill the morning sun!
