THE RUSSIAN ARCTIC. A PLACE TO FIND yOURSELF... OR LOSE YOUR MIND.
When young graduate Pavel takes a post at a remote meteorological station over the arctic summer, he is unprepared for the isolation and loneliness. His only colleague is Sergei, a gruff uncommunicative man who despairs of Pavel's youthful complacency. When Pavel receives a gravely urgent message for Sergei and he fails to pass it on out of fear, he triggers a series of events that will affect both their lives forever.

The movie had great scenery but I did find the subtitles very annoying as usually would not watch movies not in english. But was very interesting with the two people living together and working together becoming intense to the point of survival between the two men

First of all, thanks for selecting me to review this movie. I chose it, because it looked like something my husband might want to watch with me, and it had won lots of awards, so I thought it must be good. Well, we started off with our TV on the wrong setting and watched half an hour of the movie wondering where the subtitles were (this film is in Russian)...after that was sorted things were much easier to understand. Two men are lumped together at a meteorological station in the remote Arctic Circle. One, Pavel, is a young student and the other, Sergei, is a gruff, intimidating older man. The two don't really get on and so when Sergei goes off on a fishing trip and Pavel is given a terrible message he has to pass on to Sergei, he is scared to tell him. Days go by and you can slowly see things getting more and more out of hand until things become a matter of life and death. My husband and I both enjoyed this movie. It was relatively slow-moving but tense and definitely not boring, with a lot of amazing scenery. I would recommend this to people who enjoy foreign and more arty-type films. I would advise new mums to give this a miss - I could see it being difficult to stay awake during, if you were lacking in sleep!
