Help is on the way
It's Paris, 1962. wealthy stockbroker Jean-Louis lives a staid and bourgeois existence with his perfectly-presented socialite wife. But when the family's maid abandons them, into the residence comes Maria, who is young, hardworking and - quelle horreur! - Spanish. Forming a friendship with the other maids on the 6th floor, Maria soon sweeps the conservative Jean-Louis up into their wild and fun-loving world.

This was a beautiful film to watch/read... all in French and Spanish, so required more concentration than I have had in a long time with a little one. My husband and I enjoyed this movie and,as so often with French films, I have thought about it often since.... just subtleties in the plot and nuances between the characters. Enjoyed the theme of sorority of women. Oh, and it has left me thinking how lovely it would be to have a maid! ;)

I loved watching this movie! As Natalie said it was charming and enjoyable. It was an enchanting portrayal of maids in france at that time. A lovely, lovely movie.

A very easy to watch movie which is charming and enjoyable. If you don't mind subtitles, it is a funny French comedy with likeable characters and an easy to follow storyline. I also found the relationship between the two main characters a bit odd which may not be to everyone's cup of tea.

This is a great movie apart from the sub titles as is all spoken in french. It was interesting to see the boss see the living quarters of the servants and realise how horrible some living conditions were and found a soft spot for the maids on the 6th floor of his house and he lived on the 4th floor. They did seem to expect alot from the servants for little money and long hours. I watched from start to end and would recommend this to everyone and also has a happy ending.

I love watching french cinema so I was very excited to see this movie. Overall it is a lovely movie to watch - even my husband sat through the whole thing and his comment at the end was "it wasn't hard to watch". It is interesting to see how the different classes of society lived and how they were treated back in the 60's. I found the relationship between the two main characters slighty creepy though? And found myself feeling sorry for the wife. If you don't mind subtitles and feel like being transported back to Paris 1962 then I would recommend hiring this movie and watching it with girlfriends and a glass of wine.
