Foxy Bots - Stacey Greaney

Foxy Bots

Stacey Greaney's obsession with modern cloth nappies began before her son Daniel was even born.
"I'd always thought of cloth nappies as just flats and pins," she says, "I never imagined that they would look just like disposables only way cuter!"
After researching the environmental and financial impact of using disposables, making the decision to go cloth was easy, but Stacey was shocked by the prices of many of the modern cloth nappies on the market.
"I was absolutely gobsmacked," she says. "I tried several different types, but I was convinced that I could make them myself even cheaper."
Already an expert with a sewing machine, Stacey began experimenting with different fabrics and patterns and came up with a design that worked well for Daniel, who by this stage was 3 months old.
The decision to grow her obsession into a business was also an easy one as she had already been considering ways to bring in an extra income whilst being a full time stay-at-home mum. Husband Richard, a computer whiz, helped out with the graphic design and building the website while Stacey sewed up a storm getting stock ready for the official launch of Foxy Bots.
Stacey's favorite nappy fabric is minkee, and she has now extended the Foxy Bots line to include a range of other baby necessities.
"I wish I had discovered minkee fabric earlier," she says. "It feels so nice against your skin, and is the perfect fabric for breast pads. I can't imagine how much nicer it would have been if I'd had minkee breast pads in the early days of breastfeeding Daniel when the disposable breast pads would stick to my sore nipples and leak everywhere."
Stacey fits her nappy-making in around Daniel's routine during the week, sewing while he is asleep and cutting nappies or putting on snaps while he plays on the floor, and when Richard is home, Stacey juggles sewing with family time, which she says works well as long as she uses good time management skills.
Where to for the future? Stacey hopes to grow Foxy Bots into a recognizable, reliable New Zealand brand, and also hopes to extend her product range as the business grows.
"There's a gap in the market for affordable, functional novelty nappies - this is where Foxy Bots comes in. Nappies which feel good, work well and don't break the bank."
