Simply Colors - Cathey Broughton

OHbaby!: Do you ever feel "mummy guilt"
about spending time working instead of with your children?
Cathey: I work from home, so when I hear the kids
playing, I can't help but feel guilty for missing out. Luckily I
have a fantastic nanny, so I know the girls are being well looked
after. I can always nip out and see what they are up to, or
rearrange my day to be a part of important times.

OHbaby!: What's the biggest
mistake you've made, and how was it resolved?
Cathey: Spending the
first seven months trying to juggle almost everything. We realised
that something had to change, we couldn't sustain that pace or grow
the business properly. We've since employed someone in production
full time and I've now got a nanny 2.5 to 3 days a week.
OHbaby!: What is your favourite thing about the
business now?
Cathey: The feedback from our customers and the
T-shirts we get to print - some of the phrases are hilarious! One
of my favourites so far is "FAR OUT BRUSSEL SPROUT" on a bright
green T-shirt (it must be the English in
me!).
OHbaby!: What is the best advice you were ever
given as a mother?
Cathey: Don't sweat the small stuff. And buy a
trampoline. Happy, worn out kids - and it's a great stress reliever
for me too!
OHbaby!: What is the best advice you were ever
given as a businesswoman?
Cathey: If someone complains, remember to fix the
experience, not just the problem. If their experience is still
positive, then they actually become ambassadors for you.
OHbaby!: What are your
best tips for getting out of the house on time?
Cathey: Honestly, I don't have any! My husband
puts the clocks forward half an hour to guarantee I get out on
time, and my friends and family always lie to me about the true
time to meet anywhere!
OHbaby!: Who is your superhero?
Cathey: It has to be my
hubby, Pete. He is such a great sounding board, a real believer in
what I do, and a fantastic father. He also has a great sense of
humour, despite all the stressful times.
