put Taine on a leash and some kinda dog run?

we were in Gissy over the past week or so for SIL's wedding. we stayed at the family home we lived in while we lived in Gisborne so everything wasn't new at all. But Taine found new and exciting ways to amuse himself. Firstly, they hd taken the gates off the fence. After taine and his cousin ran across the road these were put back on (no idea why they were taken off in the first place). then he discovers a "doggie" and decides to climb through the BARBED WIRE fence to visit it. the "doggie" is tied up and barked furiously and growling while Taine is going "hi doggie" and approaching it. The pitbull is not impressed, and the neighbours rescue Taine just in time. He does this twice - and then we take a trip to bunnings and put an old door in the gap.

Then we go to the marae, suddenly no one can find Taine. He is found 30 minutes later sitting in the Hire van (they are putting up the marquee), fiddling with their equipment.

Next morning we find him acorss the road - he has squeezed under the fence.

the morning after he is wedged in the space in the gate.

the same day he is taken for a ride after climbing into a random persons van.


All this happens while he is being wtached by 10 adults!!!!


so amthinking maybe next time some kinda dog run and leash might be in order. PLEASE hope our new place is fenced enough (we did give it a trial run). Janine and Becks, if you see a random child running about, grab him and give him a call!

DF's mum used to put reins on him when he was little - as he used to run off. Not very PC these days unfortunately.

People still do use reins on their kids in town.

But if I see him running around down the street i'll grab him. I'm going for a walk today so I check your new place out too and see if I can see any get-away spots.

My mum put s on leashes and I've seen them sold around the place. I would do it but the nagain I'm not very PC

I actually have one for Taine that we rarely ever use - i was thinking like a long length of wire that he can wander uip and down during the day.....

Geez Liz, I really hope your new place is boy-proof! Do they get up to mischief like that together? You're going to have to get to know your neighbours. My sister used to always run away - over the gate so they make it higher, then under the gate, then through somewhere else.... Neighbours knew where she was from!

Just found this post and I'd say to any Mum - to H*** with PC, keep your child safe!

You can get reins, try Trade Me, there are currently several pairs available.

They are quite easy to make yourself though. Look them up online and you'll see it's basically a band round the chest and two over the shoulders, fastened at the back. Then all you need is a loop from the back, to hold onto.


I was exactly like Taine (Mum excuse me by saying it was a sign of intelligence, so your little boy must be really smart)

I wandered as well, sometimes miles from home once I could toddle and eventually Mum rigged up a device on the clothes line.
She suspended another rope from the horizontal line and tied it to the back of my harness. I could run up and down, play on my trike or with my dolls but I couldn't get out of the garden :)

I'd never, ever put what people think before the welfare of my children and I'd urge any Mum with an active toddler to put safety first and not listen to anyone who spouts nonsense such as 'it's like putting a dog on a leash.'

NO, it's like keeping my precious son safe.
