Hi ladies
I met a girl at my antenatal class last night who has the same midwife as me. It turns out that the midwife has been measuring her fundal height at each visit for a while now(she's two weeks ahead of me) I haven't had the Midwife actually get out a tape measure but she does poke and prod starting from the top of where I would imagine the top of the uterus would be. Just wondering if anyone else at my stage was getting this?

Also, the midwife has been checking the position of the baby at each visit with this other girl and she only checked me last month because I asked if she could tell yet.
I've been REALLY happy with my level of care and my relationship with my midwife so far - but I also don't know any better... until now
I haven't had any complications at all - in fact she calls me "Mrs Textbook"

Should I just take it that I'm a different person and that everyone is different therefore we all recieve different levels of care!?!!

I think I just answered my own question there! *rolls eyes at self*

Did the lady say she was having complications to make your midwife treat her differently?
I got measured for the first time two visit's ago and that was just because i made the comment that my family thought i was rather large and was going to have baby early. Turns out im 2cm ahead of where i should be, but she's not worried.
Im sure if you ask your MW to measure you she will...I wouldn't worry to much especially if your happy with her.

I didn't ask why she was getting measured (didn't want to be too nosey on first meeting )

I'm not too worried about it as I've been really well throughout the whole pregnancy and the Midwife is always telling me that everything is going great with bubs too, so I guess that is all that really matters

My midwife has measured my fundal height at each visit - not with a tape measure, but by making a guestimate of how many weeks my fundal height correlates to. You could always ask her to measure you each time - I figured if mine didn't need to listen to the heartbeat each time I'd just ask her to do it anyway!

I get measured with tape measure every time I visit - I thought it was just normal - but I can imagine some very experienced midwifes must be able geustimate your height just by poking around and seeing where the top of the uterus is? For example my midwife told me I was measureing about 20 weeks when she poked me cos my uterus was exactly at my belly button, then when she measured with her tape it said exactly that - 20 weeks! Maybe yours is the same?

I think I'll stick with my original gut feeling (pardon the pun! ) that she is THAT GOOD that she doesn't need to use a tape measure

Apart from our first ever visit at around 10 weeks we have always heard the heartbeat (that's the best part of the visit!)

Ive started getting measured the last couple of visits, apparently Im measuring a week a head at the moment which isnt to bad with gestational diabetes!
Maybe the other girl actually asks sizes etc. I know it was only my last visit that I was told how baby was lying and that was because I specifically asked after she had poked and prodded me.

The measuring tape didn't come out til my last visit on Tuesday just gone, but I wasn't to worried as she always did a 'measure by feel' before that. Aside from the ligamentitis issue, another "Mrs Textbook" here
