We got DF's second semen analysis back today, and he is virtually infertile. I think we may have found the cause of our problem. His count was under 14million, they were sluggish, and 94%deformed. So great.

Now I have to try and get ahold of our Doc again (the very one that told us to try for another 6months yesterday) to get an appointment to chat about the latest results which she wont have seen.

This really does suck. I cant believe it, after all the problems that could be wrong, and how mucked up my insides are, it turns out to be him. He's taking it better than I thought he would but still not easy is it. He wants kids just as much as I do.

So ladies, does anyone else knw what our options are now? Is there any chance of us having a child with the current technology? Especially one of our own, we dont want to use a donor, but if that isnt possible to avoid, then how does that work?

Is there anyone else out there with this problem who I could chat to? I guess I will move over to the infertility board now.

Oh bumblefoot - I am so sad to hear your and your DF's news - at least you know why now, its noone's fault. IVF these days are pretty good, hopefully you will be able to get some of your DF's sperm otherwise donor sperm. *BIG HUGE HUGS* to you both.

Ah, crap bumblefoot . Hugest hugs chicky babe. That's not good news at all - very similar to the news we got about a week ago, although I haven't got the counts back yet. We just know that we've been told not to expect good news.

Is that about 14 mill healthy sperm, or 94% of the 14 mill are deformed?

I know exactly how you're feeling. And you do have options - IVF. For ICSI, they only need one sperm. One. They can also, if it's really bad, use a needle to remove a single sperm straight from the testes. But, for goodness sake, don't tell him that right now ...

Jump the system. You can cross between public and private - pay to get yourselves into FA or F+ for an initial consultation (don't go through your Dr, or the public system it'll take longer) and see how things look for you going on the public waiting list. Our initial consulation cost $175.00, and although we already had a semen analysis, they ordered another whih was done directly through FA and cost $90.00. There is a points system for qualifying for public funding, but I think they have the criteria, or some of it up on the FA wesite.

Go and check out Fertility Asociates' website and have a look at the information they have on IVF.

I am so, so sorry that you're going to have to go through this. PM me if you ever need to chat - I'll keep you posted on what happens with our next appointment in a couple of weeks as it's informaton you'll probably be able to use yourself.

Thanks ladies, and thanks Ginger for the info. I will have a look at their website.

We have a great specialist and they are very approachable, so will send a copy of results and a cover letter to her on Tuesday, and Im sure that will bump us up the list. As for the points system, from what I was told we score highly as it is, so this will be a boost to that.

We cant really afford to go private with a wedding to plan, and us both being at Uin, we are stingy with money! Having said this tho we are confident with the doc we have now.

Its slowly sinking in, but its still hard to bear. DF is a bit down about it, but as I told him there are options and it is better to know now than to try unsuccessfully for another 6 months and THEN find out. So we are getting there, just a time thing I think.

Thanks again for the support, and will take your advice about the cake, and er, the other...

I do know that there are vitamins and things you can take to boost your DF's sperm quality. There is some fantastic knowledge on EBB, the girls are so helpful. Here is one of the recent questions about a sperm test that was asked and one of the girls answers:

Bumblefoot, once we were diagnosed with MFI we basically went straight on the waiting list for IVF. (although we ended up paying for a private cycle as the waiting list was 1 year in Auckland and I didn't want to wait). ICSI (as Ginger mentioned) is the normal course for MFI as the can select the 'good' sperm and inject them individually straight into the egg.
