How much does childcare cost?

Asking for a friend that need info. How much do you pay or heard people paying and what does it involve then?

Our girls go to the daycare attached to ucol (our polytech here) and they have different prices for non-students and students. at the moment mike studies so it's about $20 cheaper maybe, and we get 20% discount as we have two kids in daycare.

For our girls there were differeing prices for babies and over-2's as well for a while but ayja has turned 2 now so is the same as paris.

all up, for 45 hours booked in daycare you are probably usually looking at around $150 - $175 a week per child in our area, but depends on where you are too, auckland prices can be much dearer and demand for places is pretty large too - we have a 2 yr waiting list at ours, luckily paris already went there otherwise Ayja probably wouldn't have gotten in. naturally the less hours the less cost, but sometimes it works out cheaper to have them booked in for more hours even if you don't use them (which we still pay full price if we don't..)

When i was initially looking at going back to work it was going to cost $320 per week for Sam fulltime at Kindercare. Ouch!

Andrew's is $40 a day for up to 9 hours a day.

However in Auckland my friend works at a daycare in Remuera and you have to pay $95 a day no matter how many hours you child is booked in for.

I charge $8-10 an hour here in Howick for home based care
or if easier $130 a week

My 130 would be for a 40 hour week
as I think parents have to struggle with mortgages.

shirena - pm me if she is in our area. We pay $230 a week and she goes anytime 5 days between 7 30am and 6 30pm....and they are awesome with her. The other kids adore her, she has already learnt so much, and I feel like she is in such a safe environment there....

also if in our area I have just done the whole checking out of all the day cares etc with my SIL who works in one elsewhere in auck with me to ask the right questions etc....so i can pass on some of that info too....

We pay $5.50 p/hr at the creche DD goes to, only one day a week so far though (waiting for more hours). I'd recommend she tries to book in as early as possible before she needs it, as there are some huge waiting lists out there for the good places.

Tee heee, I know this is no help to you at all but for two days for Quinn and one day for Kaia I pay a grand total of ... SIXTY SIX CENTS!!

Ours changed a little with the 20 free hours, in that the hours they use over that time are charged for at a higher rate to make up for the shortcomings of the lesser rate they get for kids on the 20 hours scheme. But, we did not enrol Paris in it as we are currently subsidised as mike it studying.. if instead we did the 20 free hours, we'd have to pay a decent amount more, can't remember the sum but it was a fair amount. Our daycare has always provided food for the hours the child is there and has kept that up, they have a wonderful cook who makes all sorts of yummy nutritious meals.. they eat better than i do.. butter chicken for lunch or salad and meat wraps..as well as the cottage pie or tuna pasta.. I think we are pretty lucky.
