Hi,

I have an AMH level of 1.4 which is well in the red. I was wondering if there was many ladies out there with pregnancy success stories with low AMH?

Hi Tulip
Can't remember what my level was but I also was in the orange/red
As my acupuncturist told me it doesn't effect your quality just you quantity and that was probably evident in my IVF round. I only had 5 eggs but 4 fertilised and I had one transferred (on board at the mo) and one frozen

Hi, i cant say i have success but we are working on it i would be very interested in hearing some stories! I have an AMH of less than 0.5 and im only 29 i have had 3 cycles of clomid, trigger injections with no luck and have been advised our next step will have to be a donor egg.

Id be keen to hear stories from people in similar circumstances

I also have a low AMH and things took a different turn with us and our IVF, I produced lots of follies but either bad quality or no eggs in the follies. So on to an egg donor for us. My FS did however say that the jury is still out there on the reliability of AMH!

My AMH was 0.56ng/ml a couple of years ago, which put me at the orange/red border for my age. I'm now 28 weeks pregnant, but it took me 4 cycles to get there. I have a friend who's AMH was undetectable. Her twins are now a year old.

Always good to hear positive stories really gives encouragement. We are still going to try naturally for now while awaiting an ED and you never know miracles can happen

Yes we were advised the same that they just still dont know about the AMH test and its not saying you never will conceive naturally. For instance, my sister has an AMH of 1.7 and she fell pregnant first go - so it does happen! We are the same as you LornaMJ trying naturally in the hope it will happen that way but still looking for an egg donor.

Hi Ladies, good to hear there's some success stories out there with low AMH. Pinky have you thought of trying IUI before egg donor? Last year I fell pregnant after an IUI but had an early miscarriage. I tried another IUI last month and found out a few days ago that so far I'm pregnant again. (fingers crossed) When you tried clomid did you have a scan at about 12 days to see what size and how many follies were in there?

Hi Tulip2
Fantastic news for you congrats! they haven't suggested IUI to me every cycle was monitored in clomid just no luck produced 2 follicles each time too! Maybe I should bring that up!

Pinkymalinky, we now have a lovely baby boy after 2 years ttc (he is no.2 for us) my AMH wasnt as low as yours but was on the lower end of normal. One thing i found with the specialists is you really need to go in with alot of your own research and ask lots of questions. I would def look into IUI, it may just give the extra helping hand for you guys....we did IUI to increase our chances and also did Ovidrel injections to induce ovulation when follicles were at a prime size. Best of luck, never give up :-)

I am so pleased to be able to share some good news as remember reading these forums and hoping but thinking it was a long shot.
We had a little girl with no trouble followed by a missed miscarriage at approx 6 weeks when she was 18 months old. Then tried for 14 months with no success. Tried accupuncture, chinese herbs and clomiphene. Got pregnant on 2nd round of clomiphene but another missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. 6 months later (round 2 of clomiphene) we were pregnant again and I am very pleased to say I am 24 weeks pregnant and all is looking good.
Had all the tests imaginable and only issues were low AMH of 1.3 and I was 39 years old. They had said our best chance was IVF. All the very best - it can still happen :)

My partner and I also had struggles with low amh and borderline high FSH. We found out her amh was .86 at 28 years old. We were stunned to say the least. She never struggled with her periods or had an indication that this would be a problem. So, we were very surprised when we received the results. My partner immediately went to the internet to find out what can be done about low amh and borderline FSH. She decided to go on an "egg friendly diet" which included Maca powder and Chia Seeds every day. I don't know if that helped, but it is possible. We did IUI with frozen sperm and had our first cycle medicated with Clomid and HCG trigger shot, since we knew we were fighting an uphill battle. We had 2 follicles. After the IUI she was put on progesterone and had so many pregnancy like symptoms we thought we were pregnant, but soon found out that we were not. We went back to the RE and asked about going on injectables (Menopur) with a trigger shot since we only planned to try 3 IUIs before going to IVF. We did this and had only 1 mature follicle. We went ahead with the IUI although not as optimistic as the first time. We just found out yesterday that we are pregnant!!!

I have a low AMH 0.6 got pregnant naturally three times. I took CoEnzyme Q10, vitamin D,and Elevit before TTC. The Vit D & CoQ10 are good at improving you egg quality. But you should stop the CoQ10 when you get a bfp

Hello, I am new here and I know this is an old post. I am 39 and have recently been diagnosed with low amh 1.3
We have just completed our first round of IVF which they wanted to cancel due to my poor ovarian response. We insisted on keeping going. Got 4 eggs, 3 embryos. 2 grew beautifully but none made the grade to freeze but we had a blastocyst. This is where it gets slightly complicated as my partner isn't quite ready for children so we did a freeze all cycle. He wants kids just not now. Feeling really disheartened. Can anyone recommend their doctor or any advice on how to make the next IVF cycle more successful. Thank you.

Hi Hopefullysoon

Sorry to read that your IVF didn't work out, have you spoken with your Doctor about trying different meds next time that may stimulate you more?

Bit tricky that your partner wants to wait when you're 39, is he soo not ready now that he would risk never having any?

My fiancé wasn't ready either so we didn't start trying until I was 35 then I found out my AMH was 1.4, even though it's my body that's mucked us up I do resent him for his comments back then like "women have babies in their 40's all the time" grrr. Be careful with whatever you choose to do as it wouldn't be good if you felt resentment towards him for waiting.

There's lots of things you can try to help boost your immunity and egg quality, alas nothing for egg numbers. In my pantry at the moment is half finished bottles of royal jelly, spirulina tablets, CO-Q10 (which gave me bad skin). I have also tried going organic, Maca root tablets, fertility accupuncture and Chinese meds. Anything you feel comfortable with that won't effect the IVF drugs is worth a go.

I released more eggs taking clomiphene tablets than I did with IVF meds. If your partner changes his mind and is happy to have a bubs now perhaps try IUI. Initially I was told to go straight for IVF due to low AMH but I wasn't ready so we tried IUI and I had initial success twice.

I'm 39 next week so can really sympathise with your situation, hang in there. On the up side it's amazing that IVF technology does give you the option to freeze eggs for when you are both ready to start your family.

Hi Tulip2,

Thank you for your kind words they are so appreciated.

I am in such a difficult position, I have an amazing partner, who wants kids, just not now. I am so frustrated with him as he was there when our nurse said to him you are dating a 39 year old, her fertitly has plummeted off the cliff you can't work on your timeline to have kids, it's now or never. He is such a positive person he believes the freeze all cycle is the best option for us again for round 2 IVF, which is scheduled for Jan 2016.

Our Dr wants to keep me on the same protocol, I am on the maximum dosage of drugs so I can't go any higher but will have Menopur introduced easier into my cycle.

Our clinic believes if the embroys do not make it to freeze they would not have made it in the uterus. We lost 2 blastocysts as they weren't suitable for freezing. I have done a ton of research and I know many clinics still believe
that the uterus is the best possible place for embryos even if they weren't up to the quality of freezing they still could produce healthy babies. Does anyone have an opinion on this? I can't bear to do another freeze all cycle with nothing to freeze.

As soon as I found I had low amh, we stopped drinking alcohol and coffee. We have been drinking green smoothies with Maca powder and Wheatgrass. I am taking folic acid, Co-q10,royal jelly and been having acccupunture once a week.

I know I have to be patient with my partner but it's extremely difficult, I feel like my time is running out and we need to throw everything we can at getting pregnant now, in saying this I am grateful of him for being supportive with IVF even if it is only a freeze cycle. I hope I can find a way not to ever be resentful because that is a huge concern of mine for me.

Can I ask who your Dr was? Thanks Tulip2.

Hi Hopefullysoon

Sorry you're in such a difficult position. I live in Queenstown, my Doc who is based in Dunedin is Barbara Richards.

I don't know much about the freezing process, I would assume fresher is better?? But there must be a fair amount of success from frosties otherwise they wouldn't try it. Do you think your partner would maybe agree that next IVF if it looks like your best chance is to implant rather than freeze he may be willing to try it?

It's really hard not to panic and feel like you need to rush things along, especially with low AMH. The other thing to keep in mind is your AMH level may have been that way for a really long time and may stay at that level for years yet without dropping further.

We're taking a break from it all this year, must admit I'm enjoying drinking coffee again after 3 years without any. The breaks given me a chance to focus on anything and everything else. I've started running (never ran since a kid)(have also cut out sweet treats) and happy to say I've gone from size 12 to 8 yah!

We're on the waiting list as now entitled to two rounds of publically funded IVF but Otago Fertility Associates based in Dunedin have been taken over by Fertility Associates in Christchurch and I haven't even had a letter to give me an indication of how long the waiting list is.

Do you have any family or friends with REALLY cute kiddies that you could visit with your partner, in the hope to warm him up to the idea of sooner rather than later?

Hopefully soon, sounds like a tough situation. I'm not sure what to suggest - my last 2 cycles we've managed a fresh cycle but the rest of our blasts weren't freezable quality either, and the fresh ones didn't stick, I've heard lots of people have better results from frozen transfers because it gives the body time to go back to normal after the IVF cycles before the hard work of growing an embryo, but that doesn't help those of us not getting any frozen.my dr this cycle has put me on melatonin - to help with egg quality...not sure if this would help in your case but maybe worth a try?
Good luck!

Hi Tulip2,

Congratulations on getting down to a size 8 what an achievement, you should be super proud of yourself for that.

I currently am in Turkey and had to have a Turkish coffee, it tasted so good after not drinking coffee for 2 months. I can only imagine how good it would have tasted after 3 years.

Great, IVF in Feb, I will be doing my IVF round #2 in Feb so we can support each other if you wish.

I am taking Folic acid now 800 microgram's on advice from my Dr. I am also taking Co-q-10 and DHEA and many other supplements. Our first IVF cost 14k and I can only assume the second will be the same so I want to try everything I can to make it successful especially by increasing my egg quality.

My Dr isnt that keen on DHEA but she
agreed to give me a script. I work in Medical world so I told my Dr I read the clinical papers in support of DHEA in woman with low ovarian reserve to increase egg quality and quantity and I wanted to give it a go. I have read a few papers and the studies look extremely promising.

Tulip2 now is a good time to start all the
supplements you want to including the Folic acid to make sure your eggs are in the best shape they can be in, in Feb. You want to start now because eggs take 90 plus days to develop.

Crafteachic, thank your advice and sorry to hear about your IVF's not working, fingers crossed that your next round is successful. I have taken Melatonin for
years to help with sleep being an ex shiftworker so I think it indirectly could have helped as when I was taking it I had no idea it helped with egg quality.

My clinic really agrees with a frozen cycle due to the above reasons you mentioned but it's just getting embryos to freeze. I agree it's so disheartening and frustrating not getting anything to freeze. It just a numbers game ladies and I am super postive now that there is no reason why our turns can't be next.

I recently read this piece of information, that the egg contributes to 95% to the ultimate quality of the embryo and the sperm is only 5% so the males age is much less important. It is from the best IVF clinic for woman with diminshed ovarian reserve in NY who pioneered DHEA so it's credible. So we need to give our eggs all the help we can especially if you are over 35.

I am hoping by the time Feb rocks around my partner will be open to having fresh embryos implanted. It's certainly possible.

Good luck and let me know how both of you get on.

Hi Hopefullysoon,

Exciting that your next IVF is also in Feb, very keen to stay in touch.

Is there a blood test to check levels to see if DHEA will help? I'm keen to speak with my Doc about taking it along with CO Q10. This will sound vain but the side effects of acne and facial hair don't sound good, have you experienced either of these? I know side effects are worth it but we're overseas for December and will be seeing DF's family and friends so the idea of dealing with a spotty hairy face is putting me off argh.

You never know Xmas etc may sway your partners decision about freezing, fingers crossed.

Hi Tulip2,

I have been on DHEA for nearly 3 weeks now and apart from the greasy hair I haven't noticed any other side effects. The greasy hair isn't too bad and easily manageable, no acne or facial hair. (Thank goodness). I did read greasy hair was the most common side effect and it seems to have settled now on week 3. I still have greasy hair but not as much.

I am taking 75mg in 3 doses split during the day. If I were you I would start now on it, then see how you go with the side effects. If you are having any side effects, drop the dosage for the month of December to 25mg to minimise the side effects so you can make it though your holiday feeling normal and looking fab. Then start again the full dosage when you get home.

I work offshore and I am at work at the moment in Europe. So my partner has been dealing with our RE which has been great so I am sure he has been told bluntly the time is against us. I organised my DHEA script with my RE and she told my partner that there have been recent studies that haven't been great in favour of improving egg quality and quantity, also in the same breath she said that it won't hurt for me to take DHEA for the 3 months prior to our IVF cycle. I asked her about blood tests to check my naturally occurring DHEA levels and she said she doesn't do blood work when supplementing with DHEA. I know you can get tests done but I am not going to bother as my RE is happy for me not to. I know different RE's will have different opinions on blood work and supplemeting with DHEA so maybe talk to your RE first and get their support. I was going to supplemtent with DHEA with or without my RE permssion. My RE only gave me a months script so I am going to order my next 2 months supply online as I won't be home in NZ until Jan which I have figured out a way to do.

I am taking 300mg of Umbiquinol C0-q-10 it is bloody expensive but it's absorbed by the body much better than the Ubiquione so it's worth it. Woman swear by it for improving egg quality. Also I had a naturopath recommend it for energy, basically it's provides every cell in your body energy, it's good stuff.

I want to do everything to try and make the next IVF round successful. I am happy that we will cycle around the same time. So nice have someone understand an amh level of 1.3. It's crap.

I have on my settings to notify me of replies on this thread but it doesn't seem to be working so I apologise if there is a delay in my response.

Hi sorry your AMH is low, were you thinking of TTC soon anyway?

Hi Hopefullysoon,

So sorry for not posting sooner, hope your travels in Europe have gone/going well. It sounds like you've done a lot of homework on DHEA etc, I'm sure all your efforts will help with Feb's IVF.

It took me a long time to finally speak with my specialist about what extras like DHEA I could try, she didn't feel in my circumstances it was worth while so my plan is a five day testosterone thingy in lead up to IVF. As my AMH in past year has halved to 0.7 I think the IVF is a long shot so I'm not going to bother with too many supplements/fertility super foods.

We fly out tomorrow heading over your way, fingers crossed it's not too cold over there. Hope you have a good Xmas with pleasant distractions from TTC stresses.

So sorry Ytsrik35 about your recent diagnosis of low amh. It crap and takes a wee while to get your head around it. There is hope, yes it may take you longer to get pregnant but it can be done.

Tulip2, have an amazing holiday with your partner and in laws. Hope there are many distractions over Xmas for you too.

Please tell me when you get a chance how quickly your amh diminished? You say it's halved in year? Has your AFC count to halved as well? I am curious as I have an amh of 1.3 and my RE told me my fertility would be gone in a year. Like many woman with diminished overian reserve I want to know how quickly you lose it.

I have spend countless hours on the Internet looking for success stories and I have found a few with woman who got pregnant with only one follicle left and undectabale amh. You still have a shot with an AMH of 0.7.
