Hi TinkaElle,
good idea! I might join you here:-) I m also 37 and ttc my number 4! I have a 8 yo boy, 6 yo girl and 1 yo boy... and after no 3 was born, i though "was finished". Earlier this year i had a surprise pregnancy ... well, we got on board with it and started make plans and looking forward to having an addition to the family.I like the idea of having another little one close to age to my youngest. Unfortunately in may, i had a mmc at 81/2 weeks. now we feel like we are "missing one baby" to completely our family, so decided to ttc one more time.
Looking forward to chatting and sharing the journeys with you and others!

Hey Iceland, thanks for joining me! Nice to know I'm not the only one TTC a bit later. Sorry to hear of your mmc, I can only imagine how hard it is to let go of the idea of a new family member even if it was initally a suprise! We got pregnant very easily with my son, first proper month of trying but I wonder if that will be the case this time round as I know some people find it harder trying to get prego the second time.I'd like the kids to be 2.5-3 years apart if that was possible but you cant plan these things huh.My husband is 9 years younger so would have had a bunch of kids if I was younger and on board with the idea, I'm super nervous about juggling two and being tired etc. Did you find it a big jump to go from 1 to 2 children?

Ooooo this is for me too! Turned 38 in May (God, that's weird saying that!). Been trying for #2 for a year and half! #1 happened straight away, this one, not so much. We're both healthy with no health issues. DPs sperm could be better but its not terrible (Fertility Dr said that in May). Don't qualify for anymore funded appts though which sucks! Can't WAIT to have another bubba!

38yrs with a 4yr old. Been TTc for almost 2yrs now. Have just tried Letrozole but think I have luteal phase defect. 23ish day cycles.

Welcome Kosmo Ugh how frustrating for you guys Yeah its so hard to know how it will go, part of me thinks start trying soon in case it takes awhile and part of me wants to wait a few more months (I really want to be a bit fitter/healthier before getting UTD this time as I had a really hard pregnancy with my son and want to do everything I can to make it better this time). Is there anything DP can take to help with his sperm? Have you tried the male version of elevit? So if you end up needing help from FA you have to pay now? Thats rough

Hi Kosmo, great to have you join in too! That is hard road, i wish you get a bfp soon! fingers crossed!
TinkerElle, honestly, i think the hardest jump from me was from no kids to no.1. total change :-)
i think the age gap of 21/2 and 3 is nice....and maybe it helped a bit too. My first kids are 21/2 years a part also. i have to admit i decided for much a bigger gap before "braving no.3" but no3 s been great. its lovely to watch the sibling love and the older ones being so caring towards him ( well, there are time the little one is in 'trouble and eg messes up their lego creation etc.) but all good. i think everyone has their iwn idea of the "idea age gap" but on the other hand there only so much choice we are given about it, isnt it. Dont worry about juggling two, it ll be fine:-)
Hope you both had a lovely weekend!

Ughh just typed out my whole message & lost it! Happy Tuesday, hope you ladies are having a good week so far and its not wet like it is here in Taranaki! Hasnt been too bad of a Winter, but I'm looking foward to some sunshine, thats for sure!

Do either of you take a prenatal vitamin? I took blackmores concieve well gold last time I got prego but have some elevit given to me by a friend this time round, not sure I like the taste. I'm a supplement fiend, if I can find anything that will help fertility, tiredness etc I'm all over it!!

Yes, that s so frustrating when that happens and all the message is gone. ..and it seems to happen more then i ve written a long one!:-)
So far, the sun is shining here in Auckland, but i rain is sure to be comming!
As to prenatal vitamins, i just take folic acid. I ve tried a iron suplement that i was given by a friend last week. 4 sachets of Spatone liquid iron suplement...and was hoping it ll help me with tiredness. I havent been any less tired, but maybe 4 days of it isnt long enough. Best would be if i went to bed earlier, but i got into a bad habit of being an night owl. I ve started this when my little one was a baby, stayed up later as sometimes i didnt feel like there s point falling asleep if he was to wake up next half hour. Easier to stay up and now i rarely go to bed before 11pm. Not good.
Also i like to enjoy the caml in the house after every little person is asleep and relax, i also study in the evenings too.
Still i ll should try to discioline myself again and head to bed by 10h30 pm at least!:-)
out of curiosity, what time is " your bedtime usualy"?

and yes, i agree some multivits or suplements can taste bit yuk. I m not sure what it was, but once i had one that couldnt bear taking ...
take care everyone:-)

I find Floridix good as an iron supplement, def notice the difference, even after just a few days.

I saviour that free time at night to myself too. Try to be in bed by 10pm at the latest tho.

How is everyone going? We are off to fertility associates this week for an initial consultation. I am a bit nervous. What are they like?

Posted By: Mushroom
Date Posted: 20 February 2016 at 6:12pm
I like most of the team at FA.
For your initial consult, prepare for them to do an internal scan so they can see what your uterus looks like and your ovaries in order to determine the best course of treatment. There's also a standard set of blood tests, and you should probably get a semen analysis for your other half.
Good luck!

I've had bloods taken waiting on results. Hubby got bloods taken today and then they gave him a specimen jar with instructions. We took jar back to the lab and they said they won't do semen analysis over the weekend and to come back next week with a new sample. She wasn't rude but I felt like we were an inconvenience to her day and I felt angry. Thanks for advice re first appointment.

Sorry you were fluffed around with the sample. Normally you have to phone the lab to book the analysis in advance to make sure they can do it that day - I'm suprised you didn't get the normal info sheet!

Girls, we mums are never old for our kids. I was reading a very interesting article about older pregnancy and it seems like age positively affects pregnancy if you are 100% healthy http://www.babycentre.co.uk/a538711/how-age-affects-pregnancy

Hi ladies, hope you don't mind if I join you here. I am 35 (turning 36 in November) and we are TTC #2 at the moment. Our DS was born in August last year - after a bit of a rough ride TTC him, 2 miscarriages in April and July 2014 and then finally conceived him in December 2014. After 2 miscarriages I am super-anxious about getting on the TTC rollercoaster again. I have been charting my temp since April (did this in 2014 too) and I wasn't sure I was OV'ing from the look of the charts, so I went to see my doc a couple of weeks ago and got some Day 3 blood tests done and all my hormone levels are looking ok. This is only the second month we've been trying so will see how we go. I joined a forum after my first MC in 2014 and the support helped me soooo much. Hope we can support each other here too

Sorry it's been rough Yts, pregnancy didn't sit well with me either I can't believe inn signing up for it again lol. We're trying for #2 as well Rin. My son turned 2 in April, I'm 38 in a few weeks time (although my husbands only just turned 29!). We got pregnant quickly with our son so hoping things are straightforward again this time but you never know until you try so trying to be positive. Sorry you've had to go through loss, have everything crossed things run smoothly for you this time round keep in touch, you have my support. This will be our first month properly trying

I am 36 and expected TTC #1 would take ages or be difficult as my GP told me after incorrectly interpreting blood results so we went straight to FA. By the 3rd month I was pg. Have been so lucky not to have any MCs that I am aware of. I had a really scary stay in hospital overnight a month ago because my mood plummeted and my anxiety was so high. I feel bad for not liking being pg but it's ok as everyone has different experiences. All the best for ttc.

Hey Tinka and others, how are you getting on? The "waiting to TTC" thread seems very inactive so I thought I'd pop in here instead! I'm 35, 36 in September, incidentally about the time my current pill script runs out. We'll not be getting anymore, so thats exciting, but it took us 2.5 years to conceive our daughter so I won't get my hopes up too soon. How are you getting on everyone?

We're doing okay, had a first try last month without any luck. Was in two minds about trying this coming month as I'd end up due on my sons 3rd birthday! I figure it could take awhile though so will probably just give it another go anyway!

Not sure how it will go this time as I'm quite a bit older but was easy (only took 2cycles last time). My cycles are still as regular as always so let's hope nature is not against me. Am prepared that things might not work but dont want to look back in years to come and say what if?

Hi tinkaelle. Seems like there is not a lot of chat on here these days. Back when i had my last child there was heaps of ladies chatting away. Now it seems like a ghost town. Maybe they are all on private Facebook pages. I guess thats more secure. My due date group moved to facebook when our babies were around a year old and we still mostly keep in touch on there even now. I found it very useful joining in with the conversation for which ever time i was in esp the charting thread when i was ttc. Am charting again this time as i get a much better idea of what my cycle is up to. Any way iud came out yesterday so am about a week away from my period and then let the fun commence! So where are you other "older" ladies up to with ttc?

Hi julz. That sounds a bit weird. Never had that when i came off birth control. only time ive had sensitive nipples is when I'm ovulating and in the first 6 or 8 weeks of pregnancy. I dont know what birth control you were on but some do stop ovulation i believe so maybe its something you haven't noticed for a while and your body is just getting used to being normal again. As for me... waiting for af to arrive in next 2 or 3 days. Have charted this cycle and looks like a nice normal pattern so am excited about actually trying in next couple of weeks

Hi everyone! This is my last post for the evening. I'm quietly having a minor panic attack. Cd1 for me and atupidly looked up the stats for a 37 year old first time mum. Why the hell did I do that? I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. And for not pushing harder for tests etc after the first mc. Or the second. Why did I sit back and wait so patiently. Just because the doc said it wasn't considered a problem until after 3? By that time it had been nearly 18 months.
I know tomorrow is a new day and 'it's only 2 weeks till we can try again' (my partner) but today I'm feeling bloody crappy. And pissed off with the whole medical world. Sorry for the rant. I try hard to be positive but today's got the better of me.

How's everyone else? Did a facebook group get created?

Hi all

I'm new here... 42 yo, pregnant with first baby, egg-donor recipient. Just wondering if there's any other similar women out there. I'm having a struggle with many of my friends not understanding my journey, and it would be great to talk to someone who "gets it". Anyone out there? Cheers, PGB.

Posted By: PGB
Date Posted: 28 August 2016 at 9:35pm
Hi Bonnie7725, sorry to hear you're having a crap day. I totally know your pain. I was the same age as you when i first started trying. Got pregnant really easy and then miscarried. Had a missed miscarriage which then led to having to have a D&C which then (unbeknownest to me) led to uterine scarring... there were lots more things that happened that delayed / prevented me from getting pregnant. A bit painful to recount everything. Hence to say we eventually found out i had very low egg count ... then we tried IVF three unsuccessful times... We only did this because hubby couldn't accept the fact that we were going to need an egg donor. I did the ivf to satisfy him because he said he didn't want "someone else's baby". So there went another 2 years. Then finally he accepted the reality of an egg donor and then it took us another year to find one and get sorted that way. Finally we got a break with our first attempt at donor transplant - first transplant we tried worked and i am now (nervously) pregnant at 42 years old and 25 weeks in. SO i guess i'm sharing this all with you for the following reasons: NEVER give up hope BUT do make sure you are very clear early on with both your partner and doctors about what you want and need. You have to take control of this journey early on (which was my biggest mistake - because i didn't have a clue what was going on i didn't know HOW to take control) and everyone else around you will have to follow YOUR lead. HOpe this isn't too much of a rant. It's my first time on here and my main message to you is to KEEP GOING. :)

Ekk so close to TTC time Porter, our #1 kiddos are pretty close in age! I'm doing okay, AF arrived really early which I was thankful for after not ovulating! I'm feeling ready to focus on the new month now CD7 for me so will start OPKs tomorrow morning as I have no idea when I'll ovulate (if at all?!), this month. Fingers crossed everything settles tho, so we can at least have a chance.

JUlz, Miz, anyone else? Hows everyone doing?
So glad things worked out for you eventually PGB,
Sorry Bonnie, I know the stats are pretty horrendous, I know its hard but try not to think about it. I'm 37 as well so I'm feeling a bit more stressed this time than when we conceived number one when I was 35. Do you have a plan medical wise?

So glad things worked out for you PGB, sorry its been a tough journey to get where you are. I cant even imagine how difficult that must have been.

Also has anyone found their cycles to get shorter (or longer) as they've gotten older? The last 6 months Ive gone from quite long cycles to much shorter ones, wondering if thats an age thing or just because I've changed my diet. I'm just ovulating earlier in my cycles than I used to (know from temping), not sure what would be causing that.

Wow congrats julz thats so awesome! Nice to see someone having an easy ttc journey! I was like that last time. At 35 2nd month of ttc and bang! Seven years later and I'm hoping it will be easy again. Am in tww. Af due sometime in next 3days. Waiting....
Tinka my cycles appear to be shorter than when i was younger but spent 17 years on the pill so not really sure what my normal was. Seem to recall it being 28 ish days when younger now it can vary normally 25 or 26 days most months.
As for stats... i reckon they say over 40 there is a 5% chance per cycle. So that means some women get pregnant straight away. I'm determined to be one of those!
Hope everyone is keeping well and enjoying the lovely spring weather

Ohh exciting Miz, charts looking good, when are you testing? Yeah we got preggo straight away when I was 35, you hear so much doom and gloom about TTC after that age but I'm hoping it wont take too long second time round. I didnt want to rush into having another just because of my age, rather wait until we felt ready, so hopefully that still works out ok!

I am trying to get pregnant in my early 40's. It is month 5 TTC and nothing just yet. I have had all my blood tests which are above average for my age, so you never know. When I rang Fertility Associates they told me they see younger women with a lower AMH than me, so I am not really sure how they work out that people in my age bracket have a 5% per month chance of conceiving. That statistic does not really seem to consider individuals AMH and FSH tests. It must be a rough guess...

Hi JW, yeah I'm the same. Dr says my levels are good, so hoping that will help.

Sorry you got AF Miz :(

I'm still waiting on ovulation, normally around day 17 so hopefully not far off. DH and I are finding it hard trying to muster enthusiasm for baby dancing, hes day 7 through a 9 day shift and I'm recovering from pneumonia!Kinda feels like skipping a month would be a potential lost opportunity tho.

Hey Jess, welcome :) I'm Ellie, 38 and TTC #2. I'm just waiting on ovulation. Have noticed my cycles are a bit all over the place, not sure if thats an age thing or a post baby thing but does make things a bit more challenging! Hope everything goes smoothly for you! I would have loved a big family but think Ive prob started a bit late for that now!

karenka- I am sorry I can't help much, but I know ed at overseas clinics is quite popular, also cos it is cheaper. You can compare prices on eggdonationfriends com, and check out reviews on fertilityfriends. Good luck
