Egg-celent ways to celebrate Easter

Easter is usually seen as a great excuse to eat heaps of bunny- and egg-shaped chocolate, but your children don't have to get a sugar-high to enjoy this special holiday! Here are some great ideas for celebrating Easter the old-fashioned way.

For Easter egg inspiration...

An excellent resource for Easter egg-related activities is the book Easter Eggs: 40 Fabulous Projects for the Whole Family, by Matthew Mead (Chronicle, $29.99). This beau0811859436.jpgtiful 96-page book is chock-full of egg-celent ideas for celebrating with eggs. It includes projects that are suitable for children and adults alike, from the charming Egg Gift Tag to Seedling Sprouter, which teaches children how to pot herbs, flowers or vegetables in an eggshell planter. Your children can make Strawbunnies (adorable drinking-straw toppers made to look like bunny heads) for the Easter dinner table, or try their hands at wrapping blown eggs in coloured yarn to make cute Yarn Wraparounds. Candles on the Half Shell are neat wee table decorations, and the stunning Easter Wreath, made from blown eggs, florist's moss, and a styrofoam wreath form, would look fabulous on your front door all year-round. There are so many brilliant ideas, your kids will be busy all Easter weekend -- and you may run out of eggs!
