Getting Started
Getting started on decorating a bedroom can sometimes be the
most fun and hardest part. Planning the decoration of a room
to co-ordinate with the rest of the house and your style is very
important, here are some tips on what to consider when getting
started.
What will the room be used for?
Before you start looking at colors and accessories, have a think
about what you want the room to be used for. Do you want to create
a nursery that will evolve into a room for your older child without
too much fuss and expense? Or a custom nursery for baby that will
be used by any future babies? Will the room be solely for bubs to
sleep in, or will he or she also use it as a playroom as they get
older?
Themes
Are you planning on creating your child's bedroom or nursery around
a theme? Some people design the entire room according to a theme,
from walls and curtains to furniture and accessories, others use
themed linen or artwork to brighten up a neutral room. You can also
build a theme around a specific colour scheme. Some examples of
themes are: Winnie the Pooh; Princess; Fairy; Sports; Zoo; Jungle;
Cars.
Colour
When choosing a colour scheme for your child's bedroom or nursery,
there are a few things to consider. If you are pregnant and don't
know the sex of your baby, you will obviously be considering
neutral colours, you may also choose to use neutral colours so that
you don't have to repaint if your next child is a different sex. Do
you want the walls in your child's bedroom or nursery to be
consistent with the rest of the house? Do you want to keep the
walls relatively neutral and brighten the room up with linen,
curtains, borders and artwork? Or do you want to go all out with
brighter, bolder colours? You may even think about a feature wall
to accent your colour scheme.
