Sarah's story - Carlos
My waters broke at 3am on the 6th Oct 2006, two days past my due
date. I didn't panic, just changed my clothes and went back to
sleep (thankfully I didn't wet the bed!). Roughly three hours later
at 6.20, I woke thinking I needed to go to the bathroom. Still no
pain, just pressure. I didn't even think I was in labour. After
going back and forth between the toilet and bed a few times, all in
the space of 2 or so minutes, I decided to give up and
read a book.
Walking back into my room, I noticed a trail of bright red blood
running down my leg. Even though I was still in no pain, I panicked
at the blood. As I was changing AGAIN, I noticed that my baby's
head was already on it's way out. I called my midwife and told her,
and she said I would be fine, and to call her back when my
contractions started. Baby's head was completely out by the time
the midwife arrived, after my Mum had stressed to her how important
it was that she get there.
My son Carlos was born on my bed at 6.36am on the 6.10.06,
without a pain or a push. He was 7lb 3oz. It was a great labour for
me. I had earlier told my mum I wanted it filmed, which she did.
Throughout the whole tape, I was laughing and joking with everyone
around me.
As the labour was so fast, I managed to tear badly and needed
alot of stitches, but even that didn't bring me down from my
high.
Carlos is now 10 months old, and he's my life. I remember his
birth like it was yesterday, and I would do it all over again!
NB: I will never look at my bed the same way again though!
