Porse: research shows that little minds grow best at home
Preparing little minds for big futures
Imagine your child being cared for in a warm and nurturing relationship with one special Educator. With no more than four children in care at any one time, PORSE Educators dedicate themselves to providing safe, calm and familiar environments.
The value of positive relationships
Research in infant mental health and neurobiology over the last 30 years has proven that the early years are the most important in setting up children for lifelong success. And it is the quality of the relationships our children are exposed to that shape their experience of the world as they learn from those around them. This irrefutable body of research outlines the importance of one-on-one attachment relationships being the foundation for any learning or education to occur – an environment of love is what grows the brain, helping children to ‘learn how to learn’ through meaningful interaction. Our PORSE in-home Educators provide a calm and stable home environment and nurture close, connected relationships to set our most precious citizens up for the best possible start.
PORSE Educators are passionate in their fundamental belief that ‘home is where the start is’. Educators benefit from on-going support and free training from qualified, trained, early childhood education teachers. Twenty years of research and experience have supported PORSE in developing a rich and diverse programme, which provides learning experiences and opportunities for social interaction outside of the home, offering the best of both worlds.
Our PORSE Educators and Nannies educate through relationships, and support each child’s holistic learning and development in alignment with NZ early childhood education curriculum, Te Whariki. Education and learning takes on many different facets for our 0-5 year olds and the beauty of the PORSE programme is that our children can engage in authentic, natural and meaningful learning experiences in the home and community environment. Educators support this with daily recording and observations, and extend learning opportunities by offering personalised, relationship-based programmes that are unique to the needs of each child and family.
Working with PORSE
PORSE welcomes anyone over the age of 17 years who is keen to work with children in a family home as a nanny, or wants to welcome children into their own home as an Educator. PORSE offers three main types of in-home childcare options:
PORSE Educators work from their own home which is specifically designed to provide a specialised in-home care environment. A home environment allows for familiarity and stability and can better meet the needs of children and their routines.
A PORSE Nanny is the ultimate in one-on-one care, offering stability and security. Nannies work from the child’s home and are employed by the parents or caregivers. PORSE offers the ability to administer all payroll services so parents don’t need to worry about how to process wages, subsidies and KiwiSaver.
PORSE also provides two or more families with the opportunity to share one Nanny at the same time allowing families to share the cost, making this an affordable option.
For young people who are interested in early childhood education, PORSE offers a ‘Nanny Intern Programme’, which provides hands-on, authentic and practical experience in nurturing and educating children under five. This programme is supported by families that offer the intern nannies the opportunity to live in or live out of their home while caring for their pre-school children.
