Countdown online shopping
There's something exciting – especially if you have a truck-obsessed wee one - about the arrival of the Countdown Online shopping truck. While my son dances around peppering the driver with questions, I glory in the bags arriving, up the stairs and on my doorstep ready to stack in the pantry and fridge, without me having to lift a finger to do anything more than click the mouse!
Let’s begin at the beginning. As a SAHM I was the main shopper, and with one child this was a lovely outing for us, with lots of opportunity for enriching word learning. And then I became pregnant again. The bags seemed heavier, the stairs higher and some very odd decisions about what to have for dinner were made at the store when Miss Two became Miss Tantrum!
Being budget conscious, I like to plan a fortnight’s meals and shop accordingly, so when Countdown Online shopping offered a free delivery code, I thought I’d give it a whirl. There is a clever “shop by list” feature whereby you can type in your shopping list in general terms, i.e. milk, shampoo, chocolate, rice, and then as you click on each item, all of the options will spring up. Quicker, of course, if you have a brand in mind, to type that in, but I like that keeping it general means the items on special come up at the top!
If you like to plan your meals around the specials there is a tab named “deals” so you can base your menu around the discounts! And if you’re after inspiration there are also plenty of recipes from budget friendly, to heart friendly, kiwi faves and a bit fancy. Again, the clever thing with these recipes is that all of the ingredients come up with the recipe, so you can simply tick the items you need to add to your shopping cart.
Countdown Online shopping also features some “Useful Lists”. OHbaby! magazine has worked with baby consultant Dorothy Waide to develop a Hospital Baby Bag, and Baby Basics list amongst other things. One of the elements I love about this is the Care Package for a new mum. How brilliant would it be to receive a Countdown Online Delivery with delicious meals and goodies to help you through those first weeks at home with baby? You can of course customise this to add your best friend’s favourite chocolate, and cater for her weird mushroom and gherkin obsession. I think this would also be a wonderful way to welcome friends into a new home.
Having now been a regular online shopper for a while, I have a few of my shopping lists saved. While your first shop can take a while to set up, it’s a breeze now to pull up an old order and simply add or subtract a few items. The system knows my preferences and so it will remind me if my Roasted Addiqtion Coffee beans are not ordered. Having a running total keeps me on budget too – far easier to take the extra pack of biccies off the list here than at the checkout, and the modest $8.75-$15.75 (depending on spend) delivery fee is well worth my time and everyone’s sanity!
If you’d like to give online shopping a go, use code Baby15 to get $10 off a shop over $100 – that’s pretty much your picking packing and delivery done for you! What would you do with the extra time?
