I have a 22 month old who is brilliant at going to bed, thanks to a consistent bedtime routine since birth. First, we have bath with Dad, then a bottle, then he climbs down and runs into his room and tries to climb into his cot!
I am due to have another baby and Dad is concerned that older son is still having a bottle. I don't feel that there is a problem as its the only one he has as he won't drink from a bottle any other time. He has one of those leak proof straw cups with water or juice during the day.
How do I wean him from the bottle without upsetting his bedtime routine. He loves his bottle and cuddle with Mum.Richard Fisher replies:
Congratulations for having established a great sleeper. Your question about when to wean your son off his last bottle feed is much about personal choice on which you and his Dad seem to differ.
There are no negative consequences that I am aware of having him continue on for another six months or so. However, when you do decide to wean him off the bottle you may do this by introducing him to another "fancy especially chosen" cup for "Big Boys"! Suggest to him the old bottle is getting "too old and yukky". Make a big deal about his cool cup when you first use it. Use it the same night as the day you get him to choose it [in the shop or other].
