Top 10 Kiwi names for 2016

Two names with the same origin were the most popular chosen by Kiwi parents, for the second year straight.

Olivia and Oliver, which stem from the Latin 'olivarius', meaning 'olive tree', topped The Department of Internal Affairs' most popular 10 boys' and girls' names of 2016 for the second year running. Meanwhile, there was little change in the top three choices for both lists: Olivia and Charlotte remained the most popular choice of names for girls for the second year in a row, while Oliver, Jack and William stayed in the top three boys' names.

Leo leaped into the top 10 list of boys' names for the first time.
