    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=386">Georgia</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 10101<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 24 August 2007 at 9:32pm<br /><br />my mum has been in the curtain business for 15 years and advises people not to use thermal as the backing is made of a chemical that when it gets to a certain temperature it lets off gasses. <br />i only found out this when i put thermal curtains from the warehouse in my daughters room, (which gets very sunny) anyway she started waking alot during the night and every time i went in there it smelt like glue, it got so bad that i was feeling sick from it. i couldnt figure it out and mentioned it to my mum one day. first thing she said was what curtains are in there? i took them down straight away and within a few days the smell was gone.<br /> freaked me out!]]>

I would never have this type of fabric in my childrens room now that i know about it. its really toxic.]]>

I think it is more of a "media hype" and in fact, most clothes have been going through this process for years. As long as you wash clothes thoroughly, they should be okay. Not all clothes are made in China, some are made in other places, like Kenya etc.. not that it makes it any better in regards to slave labour <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley6.gif" border="0"> ]]>

So even if you buy NZ made clothing, the material has probably come from China.<br /><br />This is all a bit daunting.  I really wasn't aware that ALL clothing was made in China. Every time I walk in there I cringe at the thought of what is in the clothes and the poor souls that had to make them.]]>

Does anyone know where you can buy NZ Made clothing for a reasonable price.  Usually anything NZ Made is very expensive.<br />Surely there must be some good sites where you can buy reasonable clothing.<br /><br />Also 100% natural or organic soaps, deodorants, dish liquid, washing powder and stuff like that.  I'm now getting really worried about all the chemicals I use on a regular basis.  <br />It really is a worry isn't it, just makes me thinks what else do we regularly use that is full of harmful chemicals.<span style="font-size:10px"><br /><br />Edited by MelandBri</span>]]>
