There was another woman there feeding 2 children a 9 month old and a 2 year right next to that woman. I was surprised that they didn't try and get her into the photo.

i love when that lady in the first letter says:
"alongside sensibly weaning children at the appropriate time supervised by Plunket". i wonder if she only buys huggies cause they are endorsed by Plunket too.

I think it is a shame that some people feel the need to feed in toilets, but i think that is their choice and all about how they percieve the feelings of others.

I do feel that sometimes those that do extend breastfeed their children need to be a bit more considerate of others and that lady in the photo wasnt at all. You can see how uncomfortable the lady next to her is. Extended breastfeeding has not been the norm in NZ for a long time and shoving it in peoples faces isnt the best way to promote it.

Okay I get highly upset when people try to make other peoples choices out as being really really bad and just plainly rude about it.

I dont think I made it a secret that I personally for my family believe in extended BFding. But that it it. My choice for my family. It isnt harming her and it isnt harming me or our family set up and I dont think it has anything to do with anyone else.

At the same time I do think everyone has a right to their own opinion but at the same time you also have the obligation on how you say it to other people ect.

I have never had a problem with a mom formula feeding and no I never have to hear if she has a supposedly valid excuse (like some people will make you believe you need).

Same goes for birth choices. Doesnt matter to me if someone chose natural versus cesear versus help with medicine to totally unassistant.

What matters to me is if a mother has the best intention for their baby. Takes their baby into consideration with certain decisions.

I sometimes feel we as moms can be the best of friends and at the same time the worst of enemies. Really sad sometimes.

that is why I love OH baby. We have so many different moms with different ways of raising kids it is nice to get different advice and seeing what fits with your family set up.

Okay I know I dwindled a bit of topic. Sorry coming from someone that was not able to breastfeed and not gonna go into my issues, I found this way OTT and had to agree with some of the letters, but the lady who rang her home etc that is way out of line and totally uncalled for, each to their own if you want breastfeed your two and four year old then what ever!

This has always annoyed me. We have boobs on TV, in magazines on bikes riding through town even and the thing that people object to is actually seeing them used for their intended purpose!!! They're either a bunch of perves that don't want their sexual fantasies ruined or they're just mean people.
All that's needed here is consideration. Consideration for passers by, by showing some discretion and consideration for a mother who is feeding a hungry child. Wouldn't it be worse if the child were left to go hungry while you walk back to the car, pack the baby, stroller and anything else you have in tow, battle your way (in auckland) home, and then finally get yourself inside and ready to feed the child?? I seriously question anyone that thinks it's not okay to feed a hungry child.
I love seeing a nursing a child, I think it's cute and I can't wait to have a chance to do it myself.

I get the impression the legislation is a knee jerk reaction - to a few (like 2) woman who have been asked to stop in a cafe.
Some establishments are a bit old fashioned, and some women aren't at all discreet when BF.

I don't have any probs with BF but I do get a little embarrassed (sorry call me a prude if you like) seeing full on boobs in public.

Which paper is it busymum? Does sound like the article is focusing on a particular person taking things to the extreme for the sake of it.

They probably focussed on her (never saw the pic as I don't get your paper, lol) cos its "unusal" to see someone feeding a 2 and a 4 year old, not so much the tandem thing.

I have fed my boys at the mall, in parks, the beach, my nana's funeral; if they were hungry they got fed. And i never had any problems or got any schtick from the public. but some people do apparently...

Don't get me started on bfing. As long as someone is drinking milk breastmilk is always best no matter what age. Boob were designed for feeding. It makes me laugh when people say its not natural, hello its the most natural thing you can do. Thats all I'm going to say cos it gets me so worked up.

Ok so I have just read the letters. I do agree with that lady (not the HBA or the woman that was feeding - but how rude of that woman to leave the message on their phones). As someone who was at the latch on I was a little dissapointed that all the focus was on her, just because she was feeding 2 children - there were a number of us there also feeding our babies what about us.

As I said before I am for BF (now I can do it) but I think she drew the line there.

I have no problem feeding Josh in public - have done a few times. There have been a few times when I haven't (at a funeral for example). I haven't seen that article which paper was it in Teresa??

There has been some debate in our local paper about whether the new breastfeeding bill is or isn't necessary. For me, I've never had a problem with people "sticking their nose in" as it were (only about how many kids I have ). What about you? Is this an Auckland thing? Or perhaps I hang around more family-friendly places now that I have 3 preschoolers?
