If you have a workvisa for longer than 2 years or it is the second time you have one which will push you over 2 years you can get the 20 hours and all the "freebies" that other NZ'landers get.

But you only get assistance once you are a resident. yeah thanks for clarifying = cause otherwise people think hey how do they get it so cheap without knowing the full story...

and new immigrants may not (unlikely to) qualify for winz subsidies and the like....

Childcare subsidy is available for all kids up to 5 and some over 5 but is income tested.

Um, ours costs so little cause we qualify for 20 free hours for Quinn. They are at the uni daycare which is cheaper than usual anyway from what I can figure ($175 for a full week?) and 'cause I am studying we get more help for childcare from WINZ. The income levels for WINZ subsidies recently went up too so quite a few people qualify for them to get some or all of their childcare fees paid.

Btw I work in childcare in Hastings and our fees have gone up to $150 - and are $90 for kids getting 20 free hours.

As for waiting lists depends where you are - in Wellington I would have said to ring about a year in advance! but isnt the free hours just over three - how are the other kids getting funding too - like Kaia - or are u guys on DPB?

just want to clarify this as people tend to rely on comments in here - and shirena wants info for her friend she can use.

Ours changed a little with the 20 free hours, in that the hours they use over that time are charged for at a higher rate to make up for the shortcomings of the lesser rate they get for kids on the 20 hours scheme. But, we did not enrol Paris in it as we are currently subsidised as mike it studying.. if instead we did the 20 free hours, we'd have to pay a decent amount more, can't remember the sum but it was a fair amount. Our daycare has always provided food for the hours the child is there and has kept that up, they have a wonderful cook who makes all sorts of yummy nutritious meals.. they eat better than i do.. butter chicken for lunch or salad and meat wraps..as well as the cottage pie or tuna pasta.. charli is going to start daycare next week for 2 days a week 4hrs each day and it's going to be 60c per hour
before the 20hrs free thing came in jack was at daycare for 8hrs and it was free anyway. i'm now sending him for an extra day to make use of the free hours

We pay $5.50 p/hr at the creche DD goes to, only one day a week so far though (waiting for more hours). Thanks Bombshell. It is actually for someone in SA that is planning to come over only next year and wanted some info. So I didnt know how much childcare cost at all.

shirena - pm me if she is in our area. We pay $230 a week and she goes anytime 5 days between 7 30am and 6 30pm....and they are awesome with her. The other kids adore her, she has already learnt so much, and I feel like she is in such a safe environment there....

I have a PORSE babysitter and I pay her $7 an hour. She actually charges $6 an hour, but I love her, so I gave her a raise a couple of months ago. Em goes to her house two full days a week (18-20 hours total) so it's around $130 a week for us.

Andrew's is $40 a day for up to 9 hours a day.

However in Auckland my friend works at a daycare in Remuera and you have to pay $95 a day no matter how many hours you child is booked in for.

When i was initially looking at going back to work it was going to cost $320 per week for Sam fulltime at Kindercare. Ouch!

Before the 20hrs free came in we were paying $200 a week for 5 days that included m/tea, lunch and a/tea.

Then the centre enrolled in the scheme and it went down to $125 a week, basically we were paying $25 a day as she went over that allowance. We had to provide food for her (they provided fruit only).

Now that I've finished work she is going for 5hrs a day for 4 days and we pay nothing. Gosh it makes a difference in your bank balance too!!

Our girls go to the daycare attached to ucol (our polytech here) and they have different prices for non-students and students. at the moment mike studies so it's about $20 cheaper maybe, and we get 20% discount as we have two kids in daycare.

For our girls there were differeing prices for babies and over-2's as well for a while but ayja has turned 2 now so is the same as paris.
