Glad to hear both of you and your boys are doing good. That is iteresting about the difference between boys and girls. I guess I will find out in a few years! The only real difference I notice so far is how laidback Aiden is compared to Isla, but that could be a personality thing, and the fact he wasnt sick like Isla was at this age with her reflux and eczema.

Isla can now write her full name, she loves learning new words, and can write hospital, Mum and Poppa too!

I would love #3, but we are not decided for sure yet. Will see in a few years time. 2 is plenty at the moment. Aiden is an easy baby, but sleep deprivation is so hard, plus Isla is still very high maintenance, lol! I find her a lot of hard work. Mum helps me out heaps- my parents moved here last Nov. She has Aiden when I work too.

What a great idea Kelly. I hardly ever come on here anymore but it so nice to read about everyone. Like Andie said our wee October mummies group is awesome.
My boys are good. I can't believe we are so close to having four year olds. Ollie goes to kindy three mornings a week and is about to start a fourth in a few more months. I really love that time with just Harry. I am doing a bit of relieving here and there - normally a day a week which I like. Ollie is still super determined and busy! He is really into building with blocks and makes amazing big constructions everywhere! He also loves writing and drawing. Harry s favourite word is Ollie and it is cute how much he looks up to him. They are getting better at playing together now that Harry is able to do more but like Martine said when they both want the same toy I certainly know about it!
Is anyone thinking about number three?
Anyway, great to hear how you all are. x
Author: Millie1976
Subject: 11129
Posted: 22 July 2010 at 3:24pm

Hi all,

It has been ages since I have been on this site too and like Andie I regularly go on FB now and see what people are up to on there.

My two boys are growing like mushrooms. Ollie is a right character at the moment - he is sooooo energetic and certainly keeps me on my toes. He attends daycare 3 days per week which he loves. We decided to keep him there rather than choose kindy because the structure is pretty similar and it also works out well with me because I got a part time job working at the daycare centre doing administration 2 days per week. Sebastien is also going to the same daycare on the days that I work and starting from next month I will have 1 day per week all to myself while both boys are at daycare yay!!!

Sebastien is 2 next week - where did that time go? Can't believe my baby is 2 years old the boys have just started sharing a bedroom and so far it is going well. I tend to put one of them to bed about 30 minutes before the other so that they don't talk all night ha ha!

The boys play quite nicely together most of the time until one of them snatches something off each other and then there is a screaming match!

It is so interesting reading about what girls are into compared to boys! Ollie doesn't really talk much about his upcoming birthday. He is too busy playing with his train sets or cars or running around after his little brother.

Anyway enough of me. Nice to see that everyone is doing well. I will certainly try and update on here more regularly.

Our group defintaly was awesome! Ohbaby is so massive now I cant keep up with all the threads and dont try to either, so I miss all the "juicy" threads mostly anyway and only hear about them via peoples facebook updates too. I mostly just hand out in the Jan 10 thread, but miss all my Oct 06 mates!
Great that Ella had outgrown her allergys too, so awesome! Is Reuben on an "everything free" diet?
Aiden seemed to be heading the same way as Isla with the reflux early on, but have managed to control it with my diet. Hes very intollerent to even the tiniest trace of soy tho. I dont have cows milk but do have small ammt cheese, plain yougurt and cottage cheese which he seems to be ok with. I also dont have caffine and a bunch of other things tho, but hes doing great now! He was exclusinely bf til 6 months, and weve just started solids tho hes not very interested yet!

Anyone thought about schools? Isla"s been on the non-catholic waiting list at the local catholic school since before she was 2, and we find out this Oct if she has a place. Still undecided if she will go there even if she gets in. The closest primary is a no-go ( local Mongrel mob kids go there), and the next closest is good, but huge- over 500 kids, and the playgroud is across a road, which puts me off. The other option is good but futher away. Still only a 5 min drive tho, but the catholic and the other 2 are is walking distance- well on fine days- 15 plus mins walk. I like that the catholic one has smaller classes, and a uniform!

Happy birthday everyone. Ollie started kindy this term and it is generally going well. The first week was brilliant but this week we have had a few tears on leaving. I always ring them after ten minutes and he is fine and happily playing so I guess that is a good sign. He is shattered right now at the end of the week and is asleep on the couch. I am packing to go away for the weekend so it is actually very handy!
Anyway, better get off here and get something done.

I'm guessing it's cause our kids are keeping us all just too exhausted to hop online anymore! I've tucked mine into bed for their naps, and today Ella begged to nap on the couch in Reuben's room (she loves having her naps in huts, or made-up little beds), so we've done that, and all I can hear through the monitor is them giggling! I knew it wasn't likely to work, but they sound so happy I'm not gonna bust it up just yet.

Can you believe these October babies are nearly THREE?!?! Oh my gosh!! That first year lasted a decade and the next two have just flown past.

Kellz, I wana take back my bet that there's a boy in there! Purely because of the peek you sneaked at the scan. And because I love to shop for girl prezzies!

Did I mention that Ella is in the current Allergy Today magazine? 3 pages of her! With her there, Chiara looking pretty as anything on Oh Baby, and another friend's daughter on the cover of Little Treasures I'm feeling like I'm among the famous! I hope the rest of the October mums are doing good - are we all pondering birthday parties? Doing 'butterflies and bugs' here.

Long time no chat! I haven't been on here for ages, so I was so happy to see news of Ellie's arrival on facebook! I just lurked into the August thread to see if there's a pic of the wee girl but couldn't see the pic that's posted for some reason... I will go nose about on FB next! I'm so happy for you that she's here, Anna, and my heart goes out to you for how scary her first week must've been. Nobody wants to need NICU, and you're a real trooper for making it through! I hope Ellie's only getting stronger and stronger - glad she's home. I adore the name Ellie, by the way!

The gremlins sound like Ella with TTing, Emma. She did it when she was good'n'ready, and nothing would change that so I'm glad I didn't push it too much! Still in night naps though, and we still bribe with sweets for #2's. I was telling Kelly and Emma how Ella's behaviour can be, erm, mightily challenging these days! Those 2-year-old tantrums have nothing on the nearly-3-deliberate-naughtiness. Jono and I are doing the 6-wk Parents Inc 'Toolbox' course, and it's really good info, but the bulk of it is stuff that we're already using, so isn't very new to us - at least it's reassuring, 'cause there are days here where I wonder if I'm doing something terribly wrong or something! I think I just have a very strong-willed little girl, and that's fine, it'll pay off for Ella when she's older I'm sure. I'm counting my lucky stars that Reuben doesn't seem to be of the strong-willed variety (he's such a little cruiser!). One is enough! Despite the behaviour, I'm loving being a mum of 2. Love it, love it, love it!

I hope the job hunt is a quick one for B, Kelly. Is cabinetry something he could go out on his own with? Very cool about your folks moving into town.
My bet is: Boy

Not long to go now for u Anna! How exciting! Saw midwife this am and booked 20 week scan- almost 1/2 way already! We wont be finding out the sex this time, so feel free to make guesses everyone!

Vusy with renovations, but stressful living in a construction zone- this is the 3rd week of having tradesman here everyday. All the internal walls have been plastered and are getting painted from tomorrow. Have had all the driveway/carpost and pasts ripped up, and should have all new concrete by end of this week- so far the garage floor/carpost and path to back door are done. The rest of the section is a muddy mess, fun fun!

DH lost his job on Fri. At the mo he is helping with work on the house, but will look for something soon. Not likely to get another cabinet making job tho cos all the companys around here are pretty slow at the moment.

Mum and Dad sold their house yesterday! They were just slowly getting it ready to sell, but it wasnt even on the market yet! Settlement is Oct 4, so they will be moving to Gisborne somethime after that- they may build, but will still be here by end of the year, yay!

Hope everyone is good. K

I finally feel like my life is back on track and Im totally happy, and being back at work 2 days a week has been a big part of that. It helps me to have plans and structure to my day- just before I went back to work I felt like how on earth was I gonna manage with keeping the house clean and working etc, so I wrote out a plan of job to do what days, give myself lunch/ohbaby break etc so that I have more structure and it worked for me! If I dont have certian things to be doing at a certian time or day i tend to leave everything and get stressed more.

It's been forever!! How is everyone? Thanks for the heads-up on FB that the site is super-speedy now, Emma! How's this baby coming along now, Anna? That's amazing that your DH knows the sex and you don't... he must be great at keeping his trap shut!
How's your bub treating you, Kellz? Does Isla know what's about to hit her when baby arrives?
My baby is great - he finally rolled in the weekend at 5 1/2 months - he is such a cruiser I thought he'd never get there! Still gets a great deal of "love" from Ella, who calls him Wooben Doll, and really does treat him like one of her dolls. He's been well for one week in the last 5, but at least he's no longer man-sick! Getting his hips looked at again this week too, but I've just seen that Palmy hosp has an outbreak of Norovirus again, so I'm thinking, maybe we won't be going there! No thanks!

Are your toddlers looking very grown-up now? Ella isn't too toddler-ish these days (except at tanty-time!). I'm so proud watching her grow but it's happening so fast now. She told me the other day when she was angry, "No mum. I don't like you. You've got germs and bugs". Apparently germs and bugs is the new insult!

Reuben is just not equipped to deal with the 'flu yet, poor little fella - his turned into Man-flu and he even managed all-nighters thanks to it!

I just took on a new little not-job (is a voluntary position) and I'm all excited about it! I'll be a 'Mentor Supervisor' for a new agency in NZ called Fresh Perspective (you can find them on Google if you're feeling nosey) - it's all about hooking parents up with others who are trained to be Mentors, to offer them a hand in a supportive way. It's a way cool agency! Only a few hours a week for me, which is about right for where I'm at these days. I do love working, but I'm enjoying staying at home with Reuben and Ella more, especially while they're so little.

Hey, who else has seen that awful Yo Gabba Gabba? What the...?!? Is the presenter guy there to promote acceptance of special needs? cause if he is, then it all makes sense, but if not, what were they thinking?! Kids shows were so much cooler when we were little, eh.

Bring on the maternity leave. Yee-ah.

Ella had her food challenge for dairy on Thursday and Oh Yeah she has outgrown the allergy!! Woo-Hoo!! We don't yet know to what extent, but certainly not anaphylactic now which is all I really needed to know. We went to LoneStar the next night and she ordered off the menu - so cool. She also ate their table salt straight off a plate and when I wasn't looking I caught her with my mini wine bottle tipped into her mouth... hrmmmm. It was so fun letting her taste everything off our plates (except my prawns). Having the best weekend here - I did Kapiti Isl yesterday and it's so worth it. Had a kids party today, and Reuben even behaved himself for it! He's teething but isn't yet old enough to use a teething toy properly, so Jono tied one on his playgym so it sits just in his mouth... seems to work!

Far out I'm happy for you, Kellz.

Still using pullups- sometimes she will go up to 8 times on the loo in a day so is doing well, other days only 2 or 3 times. If she is wearing undies she gets annoyed with me asking her if she needs to go, but wearing pullups I dont ask, and she just takes herself. She doesnt use a pitty or a kid loo seat- we have both, but she prefers to climb up on the loo and balances herself on there well. lol! It is horrible waiting each month isn't it.
Our TT still going the same. We have accidents most days (the odd one with none) but he is happy wearing his 'In the Night Garden undies' and he generally goes happily to the potty when I remind him(sometimes have to bribe with a coin for his money box - he has no idea of the money concept but loves posting it in the slot!) It is saving me money on nappies and he is happy with it all so I think I may as well just keep going.
Nothing much to report here. Feel tired still most of the time but I guess that is normal with a baby and toddler and breast feeding - sigh! Harry is so cute. We have just started solids. He is six months in a weeks time and it has just flown. He is such a happy wee boy - I just love him to bits!

Mind you, I will confess that part of it is laziness, I think only the past couple of weeks that they've actually been ready but I've done nothing about it. You made me feel better when you wrote about the tantrums - about half an hour ago I ended up in tears as I was feeling so over my Ollie. Obviously I love him to bits but he is SO strong willed and demanding. Lots of tantrums over such stupid things. Today I wanted to do something nice and go to the park. Sometimes it feels like a mission getting them both sorted but I was really organised and all set to go then Oliver just threw big tantrums about getting his shoes on and getting dressed etc. He is so determined about everything. It just gets so tiring trying to be patient but also firm and consistent.
I was feeling really sad too because Harry is growing so fast and sometimes I feel like I am so busy having to sort Oliver and toilet training etc etc that he just lies around on the sideline.
Harry is a big boy too Martine. I think he will probably be around the same size as your Sebastien at six months too.
Lucky you going to the Gold Coast. That will be fantastic.
We still have day 'rests'. Sometimes he sleeps and other times he just rests. I downloaded an 'In the Night Garden' audio book from Itunes and he listens to that in bed. It keeps him really nice and relaxed and is a good rest. Usually he falls asleep with it on. It has been my life saviour as it was starting to be a struggle to get him down in the daytime.

    Author: Millie1976
Subject: 11129
Posted: 16 April 2009 at 3:53pm

Hi girls,

It has been ages since my last post. I have been lurking but not writing.

We are all pretty good at the moment. We have all been sick recently with tummy bugs, colds etc etc but all seems to be good right now.

Kellz I also wouldn't stress about the TT. We have only just started and I think it is going to take a while until Ollie is properly trained. I have been getting a bit of pressure from both my mum and mother in law but I don't care - Ollie will do it in his own time - at the end they all catch up anyways and I also think that the parent has to be ready before you start.

Andie I am pleased that you are finally getting over your bug - it is awful feeling like you have no energy - yay for DH being around to help you out!

Anna - cool that you went up to the Auckland zoo - I have never been before must make the trip some time :) can't believe that you are already over 20 weeks - where has the time gone?

I hear that Emma is off to Sydney visiting her parents - how exciting!!!!

Kath sounds like you had a nice relaxing easter and were able to get out and about. Going for walks is always so refreshing isn't it?

We are off to the Gold Coast at the end of May for a 10 day break - can't wait! I think Ollie is going to have a blast as we are going to take him to Sea World and Australia Zoo - he is really into animals at the moment.

How is everyone finding their children's behaviour at this age? I am finding Ollie quite a challenge some days as he throws a lot of tantrums!! He is generally pretty good. Is everyone's little ones still having afternoon naps?? Some days I struggle to get Ollie down and he just doesn't sleep so I leave him to play with his toys.

Ollie is starting a preschool next term on a Thursday so I am really looking forward to that. He already goes to a local community creche on a Friday and he loves it so going to the preschool will also be good for him and it also means I get to have more quality time with Sebastien.

Speaking of Sebastien he is a little monkey! He is growing up so quickly. You realise when you have your second child that they grow up so much quicker than when you have the first one because you have so much more time for your first child. It makes me soo sad!! He is great though and such an opposite looking boy to Ollie. They are going to be great playmates when they get older. He has his 9 month check up next week will be interesting to see how much he weighes. He was 9.2 kgs at 6 months so he must be well over 10 kgs!!

Sorry if I have missed anyone else and waves to you all.

There is still heaps of time so I really wouldn't worry. Isla will do it when she is ready. Heaps of children are not toilet trained at this age.
Your wedding sounds awesome. Must have been great being bridesmaid and being so involved.
Sorry to hear you feel a bit down - so hard being tired from work and then having a toddler. I always tend to over think things when I feel like that. I can understand the feeling worried how you will cope thing. One good thing to remember is that you have done it once and come out the other side with the most gorgeous wee girl. You know how to access help if you need it and you can also put things in place before the baby is born to give you time and support. You will probably find that the baby thing seems so much easier this time around. Also Isla will be at an easier age by the time you have another. PLUS you can come on here and we'll be here anytime.
Awesome about the appointment Andie.
We are all well. We had an awesome Easter. Before that I was feeling so tired and a bit over things. Night wakings were getting me a bit down so the break away was fantastic. We got out and did lots of walks. I feel much more refreshed.
The bridesmaiding sounds great fun - pity about the pre-dawn wake up call tho!

Yaaaayyyy about the flash new job, Natalie! Congrats on your decision! It sounds very cool.
I was thinking, Danni, I find Ella napping on the floor heaps too - or on top of the toy trolley that's sooo not built to take her weight (it's a disaster in the making!). Usually she's stripped to just her nappy, too. But recently she's been emptying her clothes drawers, trying the lot on, then dozing off in random outfits like a tutu skirt, shrek ears and boots.

I'm very happy about Reuben's Pead appt - I checked when Ella's was (was made months ago) and it's next week - our GP rang the hospital and the Doc said she'd let me swap them since Ella's in more of a review and Reuben's is more urgent. Stoked! I'm hoping he won't be tummy-buggy by then - I think he's caught it but if he has it's either just beginning, or not a rotten dose. I'm just coming out the end of another bout. Lordy!

Hey are people planning easter-egg hunts for Sunday? I've got these cute Easter treats to hide around the place for Ella and a Dora easter tin she can put them in... can't wait! Hope it's a happy Easter for everyone.

    Author: Andie
Subject: 11129
Posted: 04 April 2009 at 3:26pm

I'm exhausted, Kath! Got Reuben's Paed appt today... for mid-June! Stuff that for a joke - time to take action. Plus, we'll need a steady Neocate supply by long before then.
I'm very impressed with Oliver and Ethan's TT progress! And that is just too cute about Oliver taking his undies to bed!
We're still gradually introducing the concept for Ella - basically I catch her with the 'doing poos' look on her face and we go to the loo... she's all excited about using the toilet, hops on, then holds it. Really wants to use the loo but just can't! And she ends up terribly constipated, so I only let her do a few days of trying before just pretending I don't notice her 'going' in her nappy until after the deed is done. I also dose her up with a glass of Soy when she's too constipated to actually do it... how dodgy is that, using her intolerance like that! Doesn't cause her stomach pain though, so I'm not really that mean. Am I ?!

Natalie your job offer sounds awesome!! Congrats on being head-hunted too - you know you rock at your job when that happens! I hope the nerves calm down soon. Do you think it's 6 of one, half a dozen of the other, whether or not toddlers have siblings? I think they're lucky if they do, and lucky if they don't. Those without siblings get mum and dad to themselves, and haven't had a tired grumpy mum for the year that she was preggers then with newborn. Pro's either way, I think

My poor girl's had grumpy mummy (and screaming brother) all morning, so I think I need to break out the new Play-Doh with her this afternoon. *Big Hi to Emma and Kelly and Shelley too! Hope work is good this weekend Kellz Hope you get another decent sleep again soon, Emma!

Congratulations. That is awesome to be offered something when you weren't actually actively looking. Yours skills must just shine out!!!!
I have just been to a school fair and got so many bargains - feeling very pleased!! I joined in with all the other people pushing around a table grabbing at things all over the place, filling up plastic bags etc. It was craziness!!! I filled a bag with awesome puzzles, toys etc for ten dollars and then another one with books. Lucky I didn't have any more hands or even more would have come home. Such great things though - vtech toys, awesome DK books, great great educational puzzles and games!
I started toilet training this week and the first few days went well but I am just not sure if he is quite ready. The first couple of days it was all a big novelty and he loved having his big boy undies on
and going in the potty. The last two days though have been more of an effort.. If I don't remind him every half an hour or so he has a wee accident (which doesn't bother him) We don't make a fuss about it - just change his pants and carry on but it makes me wonder if he is not ready yet. Some of the time when I say about going to the potty now he says "no wee wee" . Do you think all that means he is not ready or should I just keep trying. He loves wearing his undies! He has even taken a whole pile of his new car ones to bed with him!!!! They are all piled up by his pillow. Funny wee man,
Emma, maybe I will just get used to sleep deprivation too. I laughed when you woke in a panic at five thirty!
How are you doing now Andie?

I have pretty much said yes, but have been stressing to the point of midnight panic attacks over it all. Not actually the job, but the fact that I would have to work more hours, leave the comfort zone of where I am now...blah blah blah...nothing really to stress about it's just a big change....

I had one night last week when all four of them slept thru and I woke up at 5am in a panic - I'm not used to unbroken sleep!

Big hugs Andie, I'm sorry the great experiment didn't yield the result you wanted, but at least now you can deal with part of the problem. The gremlins were exactly the same - right ferals on breast milk but perfect angels on Neocate, and by studiously avoiding everything till 10 mths we managed to stave off the allergies save for nuts, so it's not neccessarily a life sentence for wee Reuben. It's promising that Ella has done so well with her allergies decreasing in severity with time too.

Great belly pic Anna!

Definitely a cute cute bump. Do you have a gut feel of what you are having?
Does it feel similar or different to last time?
Andie, it is great you know which way you are going now. I know it was a hard decision but it definitely sounds like it is for the best. You have tried all the options and a happy baby is the only way to go. Cute about Ella.
Both my boys and colds and are miserable. Was up most of last night so feel rubbish today. Just taking it easy. They are both sleeping now so I should get off here and rest myself. I thought of you last night Emma and thought you are a star to be managing four!
