Just use firm strikes between the shoulder blades with the palm of your hand, and if you can manage to get them on an angle (facing downwards) it can help. Generally fishing around in their mouths with fingers is a no no, as it can sometimes force the object further back (ie: not good!). With this in mind actually, I must remember to ring up St Johns and book in to renew my first aid certificate...

Oh, and well done for making it through day three!

    Author: Chovynz
Subject: 11225
Posted: 03 October 2007 at 7:45pm

3rd Day on the job.

Forget Iraq. We have Biological and Chemical Weapons of Mass Distraction stockpiled right here in our home. I walk into the laundry and my eyes start watering, my lungs start heaving, my knees knocked together and I flailed around looking for the source of the assault. These Biologicals go right through the grade 5 gas-masks. Should I mention they are organically grown so they are eco-friendly Biological weapons? We have three massproducing WMD factories right here in NZ. All they require is massive amounts of paper and ink and vocal chords. You know the weapons are ready when you hear the immortal words "Mmmpmpph ...pooooos Daddy." Actually no...it's worse than that. The ammonia smell alone is enough to make me gag. And that's before those immortal vocals. That's not even with the solids!!

Speaking of vocals...I found finger impressions in my speakers last week. The high pitched muffled warble that happens when a certain pitch range is reached while music is being played is starting to drive me nuts. My beautiful speakers....munted. Teresa and I are agreed. We need a new stereo system. The CD player doesn't work, the speakers are busted, the volume only works with the remote (which gets played with almost every day - although it seems to have lessened lately, hopefully they are losing interest in it.) Next time we get a stereo it will have titanium grids over the front and spikes on the remote...ahaeheh...that'll teach them.

I learned my lesson from yesterday. I pulled out sausages from the freezer at about 8:30 this morning. I'm going to have a crack at making a double curried sausages dish. I think I'm supposed to make rice with that.

I reckon nothing is more scarey than hearing your little girl choke and seeing her stare up at you with a reddening face and tears in her eyes. Although on second thoughts I think seeing your pram go into a pond with your baby in the pram is probably higher up there than the choking... But still, standing there feeling helpless while your baby goes red...it's scary. I'd hit her back like you do with adults, but I've heard that's not good for kids. And my fingers are so big they choke on my little finger. Next time I gave her a cracker I broke them into pieces smaller than the thickness of my little finger.

I was busy looking after the girls when a design client rang me up and dropped a bomb on me. He told me "I told the printer theyd have the job yesterday..." . I'm like...yeah...thanks. Not like I've got anything else to do. Now the washing is behind. I can't belive I actually just complained about not being able to do the washing...

After that crisis management scramble (along with juggling 3 kids and morning tea (which is never as simple as that sentence reads...Why is feeding time so drawn out???), now I'm about to play Monopoly with Hannah.

...

There goes my real estate career. By the 2nd round she had 6 properties and I had 3. It was only a matter of time after that...

God Bless Google. I texted Teresa at work to ask her where her recipe books were but I didn't get a reply in time. I went on the net and looked up curried sausages and then remembered that you can't make a good curry without coconut cream (don't ask me why - I just know that.) So I went to the pantry and had a hunt around. Success! We have coconut cream. After that I went to Google and looked up curried sausages. Now I need to find a curried sausage recipe that actually uses coconut cream. Took me awhile but I found it. I then looked up "saute" cuz I dont know what that means.

I'm running out of things to make for lunches. Today I fried some eggs and lavished the toast with a chutney, and put some cheese on top. I'm reminded of a TV program snippet i saw awhile ago. This young female chef was yelling at her staff "There is no excuse for burnt eggs!!" to which my mind is yelling at her "I'M SORRY!! I DON'T KNOW HOW TO!!! *sobs*" Burnt eggs is the only thing I can cook it seems. Although it's nice when your girls tag team their sleeps and the younger one doesn't actually KNOW she's missing out on the eggs. Apricot Jam Sandwiches for her and she doesn't know any better. Ahheheheh.

For some strange reason "Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me..." is running around in my head today.

Things to do today: (apparently)
Make beds
Wipe down under-kid-seat-mats
Vacuuming
Make dinner
fold washing
put away washing
bring in washing
do dishes
put dishes away
do more dishes
put more dishes away
mopping?

I think I'm really starting to enjoy being a Stay at Home Dad. You can do - in amongst the time constraints of feeding, cleaning, feeding again, picking up, putting down, picking up, "no" "no" "yes!" putting down to pick up, grabbing, running up stairs, putting washing on at the right time so that when the dishes are done I can put the washing out, doing the matrix moves and catching Briona in mid jump from the couch to the floor, putting down, sending to the bathroom, bringing out, talking, more talking, lunching, cleaning up and feeding more - anything you pretty much want to. There's no boss (not counting the kids - they seem pretty clued up), theres no travel (except when the aformentioned boss says "POOOOOOOS" - then it's beam-her-down-scotty-at-arms-length straight to the loo) There's no um..um...i'm slowly forgetting what work was like. I was about to say time pressure, but that's not right. There's freaking heaps of time pressure...if I don't get the washing out in the morning, that miight be my last chance for the day!! Everything hinges on the washing getting out.

The house is a bit of a mess and I forsee me getting annoyed with it enough to do something in the next few days, but for now it's fine.

What I actually did today:
Dinner x 2
Washing on and out, and in, and out
Graphic Design emergency
wipe noses and change bottoms
feed the circus
picked up krissy (she fell over from sitting) x 4
read my comic (yay! they were all asleep - well...the two that counted)
dishes, on and in and out and on
table cleared and set and cleared and set
enjoyed the sun and my girls company
played monopoly
