We give him a dummy and toys to chew/suck on already. I talked to the plunket nurse about it and I am "allowed" to give him drinks of water now when he is hot - he is a hot baby and gets really thirsty - as long as it is after a feed.

It's not as though he is starving or anything so I guess waiting won't hurt. Thanks

He ate and ate and ate. Looking back i really think it was eating for comfort. we introduced a dummy whcih was pretty good. When he was really hungry, he'd spit it out and yell. When he was just interested in sucking, he's use the dummy instead of me.

we gave Jake baby rice at 3 months. He ate it...kinda, but wasn't impressed. Now he's a hefty 11kg one year old...not fat, but big

    Author: mum2paris
Subject: 1172
Posted: 21 November 2005 at 9:49am

We started Paris just before 4 months - the guidelines usually say no before then because their digestive systems aren't able to handle it.

Ayja in the other hand has only just started having solids consistently in the last week and she is 6 months old. I do remember her increasing feeds around 13 - 14 weeks, for a few weeks and then seemed to settle down again - for a while there it felt like she was constantly feeding!

While it might be that Josef is hungry, is could also be that he likes to suck for comfort - ayja sometimes will just drink forever if i let her - so instead i give her rattles etc that she likes to chew on and she's happy as.

Have a talk to your plunket nurse and see what she says - for formula fed babies they have some guideline about baby at least drinking 1000 mls a day etc and all this other stuff before they suggest solids, but breastfed babies are a bit harder to gauge.

If you are happy giving him more feeds then there's no reason to start him on solids really, but hey, it's only another 2 or 3 weeks until he's old enough anyway, maybe hold out and feed more until then, and see how he goes?

Josef is a big baby 7.5kg and 62.5cm and instead of eating less during the day has started feeding more often over the past 2 weeks?? Could it be that he is hungry and is it really so terrible if I give him a teaspoon of farex after his evening feed???

I thought I would ask you guys because you have practical experience and the books from plunket etc. are all what is upposed to happen etc. not what is real sometimes....

Thanks for the advice...
