The problem is, he ends up rolling onto his tummy and waking himself up 'cause his automatic reaction to being on his tummy is to go up on his hands and knees!

He looks so cute, crying because he's up and he's dropped his dummy and he can't find Monkey! I eventually took her home and put her to bed at 7pm she grizzled for a long time then went to sleep, I gave her a dream feed at 10ish before I went to bed then she slept until 7am. from then on this stayed her routine she is now 2and a half and does pretty much the same thing.

It's a bit mean to them I guess but if it means a happier mum then it's worth it.

I had the same problem with Eleanor kicking off her blankets, or scooting up the cot and getting out. She now sleeps in one of those sleeping bag type things, and she has been sleeping really well ever since. The only problem I have is on wash day!

She's only just started sleeping through at about 5 and a half months, and has just dropped down to 5 feeds a day, but still spends large chunks of the day asleep... usually goes something like this:

6am Feed, change, straight back to bed.
9am Feed, bath, muck about until 10:30, then back to bed.
12pm Feed, solids, awake until 1:30-2pm.
3-4pm feed, awake until about 5-6, then back to bed.
7-9pm Feed, solids, back to bed around 8-9:30pm.

We usually miss one of the sleeps when we are out & about, which is probably about 4 days a week.

    Author: Maya
Subject: 1173
Posted: 22 November 2005 at 2:46pm

6 months is an evil time for babies sleep patterns. It's apparently to do with their developing awareness of what's around them and beginning to develop recall memory, greater enviromental stimulation etc.

Maya was absolutely hideous between 5-7 mths. Up until then she had slept thru 12 hours at night from 7 weeks, but then all of a sudden she went feral. She would go down ok, but then wake up and scream (and scream and scream and scream) half the night until I eventually gave in and fed her. I remember ringing Plunketline one night and they kept me on the phone for over an hour while we waited for her to scream herself to sleep, because being on the phone was the only thing that stopped me from going in to her. I would sit and breastfeed her thinking "Please settle down" and crying my eyes out because I was so tired and frustrated.

But it is a phase, and we got thru it by being tough and sticking to her routine, and doing the whole controlled crying thing to re-teach her to put herself to sleep. I know it's not for everyone but it worked for us.

PS. Janine, Maya has had a few late nights in the past couple of weeks too. Partly hectic afternoons, but also it's getting dark later and she tells me she can't go to bed till it's dark

He wakes about 6.30am, has a feed, has a play with Daddy, has some solids, has a play on the floor then goes to sleep around 8:30am for half an hour or so.

At 10:30am, he has a 2 hour sleep, then we have lunch around 1pm. He has been fighting it, but we are slowly establishing that he will have a sleep around 3pm for anywhere up to 2 hours.

After dinner, he is going to bed between 7:30 and 9pm (depending on how the afternoon has gone - weirdly enough, if he's had a decent sleep in the afternoon, he tends to go to bed earlier!).

He's sleeping until somewhere between 11pm and 2am when he has a "dream feed" (thanks Annie!) then it's back to bed for the rest of the night. Some nights, I'm up for an hour at 4am resettling him and convincing him that he is NOT going to snuggle down with me for the night, but the sleeplessness has been worth it - he's practically sleeping through the night now, and one feed is better than 3!

Josiah's main problem is that he kicks off his covers, so he gets cold which wakes him up and he wants to snuggle in our nice warm bed and we don't want him to! So, I am still getting up to him, but now it's a case of moving him back down the cot and covering him up, and usually he goes back to sleep.

He has been on 2 day naps for ages, sometimes I can "force" him to have 3. This has happened since he started soilds. We have a great routine, but, like Ayja, he wakes after an hour and won't go back down. Can't offer you to much advice, but I will be interested in hearing what everyone else says. I think i may have to rethink the night routine and see if i can fit her in a bit better. sometimes things just happen all in aheap and she isn't getting seen to till after 6 pm.. (mike is always off doing stockcar stuff lately so i am the only one there at night, feels bad cos paris isn't getting to bed till after 8 sometimes too... BAD BAD BAD!) lol

Now Jake sleeps during the day, one or two naps - ranging from 45 mins to two hours. We had huge probs recently as the PIL's house had no cot, so he slept with me in the double bed....no problems until we got back to NZ and re-introduced him to the cot. He screamed and screamed and screamed.

how long does Ayja sleep during her naps? Could you cut them down? I remember you said she gets overtired really easily, what time do you intially put her to bed? Is she over tired then?
