I am also the mum of a special needs child and we are always needing respite.

The govt pays $75 per day, and as said before this is tax free.

I second the comment about the lotion. It has done wonders for Samantha's excema!

Anyway, I have also been doing Avon since I had Sam. Great for a little bit of pocket money, but as with you most people around me have a rep so I am mostly dealing with family & friends.
The other option once your baby arrives is Homecare catalogues. You just go for a walk with the baby in the pushchair and deliver catalogues and then pick them up a few days later. The commission on sales is quite good (30%) and I always do quite well out of this. I maybe spend 2-3 hours a week walking and usually come away with $300-400 worth of orders which means $100-$125 for me.
I should add that up until a few weeks ago sam usually slept through my wandering around delivering these!

Hi Guys,

I sell some stuff called melaluca..well its not really sell as its a membership club. Clients pay $50 to join and then need to spend $100 a month to get wholesale prices. It all eco freindly and baby safe products! Its incrediable stuff makes such a difference in your house. If you manage to have a good customer base of about 8 people you can earn around $900 a month. The leading guy in NZ earns $360K a year by doing this. Basically if you shop through them and get a customer base you dont need to get vitamins, cleaners etc from your grocery store. MILF i used to work for IHC so have experience with that but would rather not do it when I'm pregnant for several reasons...i did love that as a job though:) thanks susieq..

There should be in the phone book under the yellow pages Market Research companies listed,
National Research Bureau who I work for are in all the big cities and also another is Colmar Brunton whom I used to work for,
With National Research Bureau we get given the questionaires with the questions we have to ask and the spaces for the answers which we have to fill in with a red pen, then we also with each survey we get allocated pages of the phone book usually with the method of how to get the numbers for example sometimes it is the 3rd colum on the allocated page and every seventh number from the top and other times from the bottom

tash you are doing a great job! yes maybe i just need to get more organised and atm i don't charge much for postage(as someone told me off once) and end up at a loss.. but we have so many clothes and other things we don't need here.. .might do some of that tomorrow..after the chch meetup of course:)

When Kelly(caitlynsmygirl) and her siblings were little I started doing Market Research for a company called National Research Bureau and I still work for them from home. I get 15 an hour now as a Senior interviewer has gone up this year,

Just as an idea, if you are going to do something crafty, see if you can nail a corner of the market that isn't really covered or offer something a little different or above the average if that makes sense.

I only suggest this I do seem to hear about a lot of mums doing crafty stuff and to me there seems to be a wee glut on the market!

I like the idea suggested of catering. If you are good with baking etc that could really be a point of difference for you!

you dont really earn much mystery shopping unless you are in a big area that has heaps of shopping oppurtunities.

i have been selling everything that isnt nailed down on tm. i just added up and taking out the success fees etc i have made $80 in the last week.

we live off $230 a week. and the only two things that dont come out of that is our power and insurance. but out of that $230 a week we have to pay for power, food, petrol and other car costs, clothing and anything else-eg christmas,medical care, and stuff for the twins. we dont pay rent or have a mortgage thougha nd we get free beef and we are getting a free lamb for christmas.

I agree My2angels, I was about to suggest catering as well, and how are you at icing cakes? People will pay good money for gorgeous birthday cakes for their wee ones, anniversary cakes etc. Down in the deep south they often run cake decorating courses (which my friend tells me was well worth it), she has her own wee website and makes quite a good wicket out of it (mind you she also works full time). People need to eat and always need food and a good caterer.

shell have you thought about catering? I know offices etc.... are always looking for places to cater morning teas and office shouts. we used to pay a fortune for it at my last law firm. Plus and i know this sounds a little morbid but funeral homes are often looking for caterers or people to cater the afternoon teas after a funeral. This might help not sure and not really working from home, but I've recently started work in the evenings 5.30-8.30 in a call centre $12p/hr. I'm in Palmy but a lot of them are looking for staff to cover the Xmas period might be something to look into. trademe good but it costing a lot to list things :( so have to keep putting money on there.. but yeah i still have two rooms of stuff so might try to do more of that:)

shell:( we have alot of extra clothes( i mean enough to dress Ethan till he's at least one) but obviously cant sell the extra clothes till i know what size he is and keeping the piles and piles of girls just in case for next time...as far as baking i guess unless you have a stall it's kinda hard..though i would defintely buy cakes etc!!:)

My DH and i are doing ok just because he works 6 days but hes so tired he wants to stay home the other day and I'm so bored I wanna go out..lol:) our wedding anniversary coming up and so decided to put a spending limit on that too...even though it's our first! It's hard going from earning 550 a week to nothing..wish i had thought to save more!!:(

yup i agree with the trade me thing. i sold something like $65 worth of stuff over the weekend, and then they pay for the postage lol. but it doesnt work if you keep buying stuff too

ok for those who don't know I finished work 3 weeks ago....and i am very lucky to be able to do it and i like it! But............

I need to earn some money...i joined Avon..but it seems everyone around here already has Avon supplier:( I need some more ideas.. i don't make anything (besides jewellery but am not that great yet) and although we are surviving i would love to have my own money again without asking for it(even though M is happy to give it to me)

When Ethan is born we will get 150 a week for 8 weeks then something like 75 a week from IRD so that will be helpful..but what to do till then?any ideas?
