He is awake a lot more during the day but he is quite happy to lie awake in his bed and stare around the room.

I took him to the doctor last week regarding the reflux, she gave us gaviscon infant which has helped him a lot - he still throws up a bit but doesn't have the horrible liquid hiccups or pain in his tummy that he had last week. She was of the old school. Back in her day, babys were (i guess you'd call it) made to get into a routine. We dont have Gypsy in a set routine, as such, but do try to make sure shes drinking enough and getting at least a couple of hours of sleep in between feeds. Gypsy has been doing much better the last couple of days, so I'm hoping she is over the hump. She even slept for 5 hours the other night so we are all feeling alot better now. There is a special formula for babys with reflux, S26 for babys with reflux. You can find it at pak and save. It worked really well for my son but for Gypsy it hasnt helped all that much. I guess its just trial and error(lots of errors, lol)
As for the routine thing, my old plunket nurse I had with Shaun said it was really important to get them into a routine by the age of 6 weeks or I would have a really fussy baby. Well, with Shaun it worked but Gypsy is a very stubborn baby. We've still got 2 days before shes 6 weeks, heres hoping.

Took him to Dr twice in one day, and they ended up giving us baby gaviscon, which was great. All it is is the wee muscle at the top of thier tum hasn't finished developing, so lets milk spill back up, along with stomach acid, hence the "burn" and scream. I think thats right, how it works, any way. i would reccomend going to a Dr! Its worth sorting out!!

I hated it, once i got there it al seemed better again. this 3 weeks is gonna be hard for us i think. argh - had disagreement with mike cos he goes "how long you gona breastfeed for?" i said as long as poss why? now don't get me wrong he is fuly supportive of the breast is best thing, and me feeding ayja - but he said "i dunno, after a certain age it just seems a bit wrong... he said "when they can ask for it then they're too old" lol i laughed at him. he said it in a nice way not nasty like that horrible guy on the shorty website. i think he just remembers me saying about one of the babies i nannied for who would wait for mummy to come home from work at lunch time, take her hand, lead her to the chair and say "boobie" lololol.

Once Miya was bathed, fed, changed and burped I put her down and let her cry for 5mins then without turning lights on I just picked her up and held her for 5mins then put her down, we repeated this 3times and on the 3rd she only cried for a minute then slept til 330am. I knew there was nothing really wrong because as soon as I'd walk into the room she would stop crying. I asked my midwife about it today and she she as long as they aren't really screaming their head off and aren't left for more than 5mins then it's fine and even teaches then good habits.

Hrmmm.. little worrying.

Anyway, glad it hasn't come to that yet and you are getting some sleep!

    Author: Lib
Subject: 1186
Posted: 24 November 2005 at 9:35am

Just wanted to give you guys an update on my query on getting my baby to sleep when hes awake.

I started pretty much straight away (about 2 weeks ago now I guess) and starting bathing Israel at night. I then gave him a bottle of expressed milk (usally his dad gives him this so they can spend some time together ) and put him to bed. For the first couple nights it was hard, I was sitting in the lounge listening to him and had to hold myself back from going to pick him up again. I was going in to cuddle him every 5 minutes and then started to stretch it out and by day 3 he was sound asleep within the first few minutes.
He has been sleeping for a lot longer now too, we usually wake him up just before we are going to go to bed and give him another feed and for the first time in a very long time I had 8 hours sleep in a row the other day....woo hoo!!!
