Variable success! Daniel hasn't slept much so hopefully will be OK tonight and not overtired.

Have put a bottle of wine in the fridge for tonight - that's as much pampering as I'll get tonight methinks!!!

Was less of an issue once I stopped swaddling them.

Weegee - Chiara has had a couple of nights waking every 3-4 hours too which is frustrating coz I'd started getting used to the 5-7 hour stretches! She settles quickly in the night with no grumping tho, I feed her without unswaddling her and don't change her nappy unless she's dirty so it doesn't wake her up more than neccessary and I feed her in the dark.

Kimmies - OMG yes! Even my mum commented on the grays today! WIsh I could get the time to get a decent cut and color but I suspect the closest I'm gonna get for a while is a packet jobbie from the supermarket.

Chiara went to her first funeral today My mums BFF's dad, it was a nice service and she was beautifully behaved, I just sat in the back of the church and fed her, a couple of people commented on how nice it was having a little baby there.

We took her to Frolic for breakfast too, it's great for the gremlins coz they have a playroom there and I could feed Chiara, she's getting pretty portable!

Finally got to sit down for my first official "me" time today... both girls are down for a sleep and hope it stays that way

Emma - my my my. What a day you had yesterday!! I just find I am busy enough with two of them - seem to be running around the house all day like a "chicken with its head cut off"!

Oh Blondy - we are thinking of you honey - hope all is going well! We will surely see pix of your baby really soon!

Kaelanismum - Sorry to hear about Eva's tongue tie. My friend's baby girl also had the same problem and had real problems feeding until it was dealt with at hospital. Now she feeds fine.

Hope you have a good birth too Maysie

What a pain Weegee that JJ has gone back to 3 hr sleeps! Matilda has finally gone for longer than 3 hrs last night - she managed to sleep for one period of 4 1/2 hrs last night - Ahhhh bliss!!

Kye - we have one of those sleep wedges too. They are great - lovely that your child doesn't end up suffering from flat syndrome if they sleep on their backs all the time. In terms of your question about sleep - I quite often have to wake Tilly - to fit in with the routine that we have set down. Usually, she is the one who dictates when she wants feeding during the middle of the night. With Georgia I used to set my alarm clock to wake me up - but this time I am a little more relaxed about Tilly (but more tired!) - I figure she can be my alarm clock during the middle of the night!

Is anyone out there feeling like they are in major need of some Mummy pampering? I haven't had my hair cut/coloured for over 12 weeks. Am so needing to go to the hairdresser....I am thinking I need a total change and get my locks chopped off - not too short - but a great deal shorter than I have it now! Thinking of going back to a structured bob (like Katie Holmes) - which I had through University. Problem is - Michael likes me with long hair ! What to do....??? I have already gone out and done a little pampering, like shouting myself some new clothes

Fedding with Eva was going well other than sore nipples until Monday night when she just decided she couldn't latch any more. And that was that there was just no convincing her otherwise so I have been constantly trying, and expressing and bottle feeding for the past 4 days and beating myself up over it it all week breaking into tears at the drop of a hat. Then yesturday I got a lactaion consultant out and it seems that the problems may be due to Eva having quite a prominant tounge tie. We are going to see a pediatrician tomorrow to posiibly get it snoppied and hopefully this will help her to latch again. Apparently it won't be painful for her but I'm really not looking forward to it.

Hope everyone's getting some sleep!

    Author: blondy
Subject: 11874
Posted: 31 July 2008 at 7:53pm

Well here I am, the last due in July preggie lady, and July ends in 4 1/2 hours!

So I may have to move over to the July babies thread, since it's down to just me! Scan went well - was very quick, but everything is fine; fluid and placenta are normal, and baby is estimated at 3.9kg (about 8lb 8oz), so we will see!

Had the mw apt later this arvo, and had a freak-out moment, because she couldn't pick up the heartbeat, and then when she did, it was really slow (like around 70-80bpm). So had to go have monitoring at the hospital for 30mins. In the end, baby is fine, and heartrate totally normal, with heaps of big movments as soon as I was connected up. With hindsight, I think the baby had just moved away from the front of my tummy, and the heartrate being picked up was mine rather than bubs. Was a very scary experience at first though, just quite a shock. I'm already worried about being this far along, and having something awful happen right at the end, so this experience tonight didn't do much for my emotional well-being!

Anyway, first available apt with an OB is monday morning, so (assuming I don't go into labour over the weekend), I just have to get through the next couple of days and will get booked in when I have the apt on Monday - so hopefully won't be too much longer!

The radiologist and my MW were quite surprised at how far down the baby's head is, but why that isn't causing labour is anyone's guess! The biophysical profile score (that they measure the 'health' of the baby/uterus by) was 8/8, so I think the MW are trying to leave me as long as possible to try and go into labour naturally. I had planned to ask for a s&s, but with being whisked off to the hospital for monitoring, it just didn't happen. The good thing is that the baby and placenta/fluid are healthy, so I don't need to stress about the baby being distressed at all, even as I get closer to 42 weeks...

so all labour vibes welcome here! I should start on my monologues and watch out for the echoes, seeing as there's no-one left in here with me! Pity party!

Was lovely to see your gorgeous babies today, Emma and weegee (and Flissty). Hopefully this stubborn little one will stop freaking out her parents and will join us in the outside world soon...

Got up and got the kids out the door (but not before changing lil miss coz when I was feeding her my milk let down on the other side and she got soaked!), got Maya to school, took the gremlins to Mainly Music, bolted from there as soon as the music part was finished to make Mercedes ENT appt at 10.15. Got there, lil miss was due a feed so woke up and grizzled, couldn't find a park, got a park, gremlins had both taken their shoes off so had to put them back on and dragged the three of them inside. Then discovered that her appt wasn't till 3.30pm Talk about baby brain! So I gave lil miss a quick feed then dragged them all home to finish feeding her. Nanny arrived at 11.30am by which time lil miss had finished feeding and was back in her capsule ready to go to Flisstys. Went to Flisstys which was probably the most relaxed part of my whole day coz lil miss slept in her capsule and only woke for a quick feed and Daniel and JJ are such honeys! (Thanks Flissty! And was great to meet Weegee and see Blondy again!) Then left there at 2.30pm to pick up the nanny and the gremlins, went to school to pick up Maya, straight to Royal Oak to meet a friend for coffee (except I went the long way - baby brain again!), then home in time for lil miss' 4.30pm feed, put her in the Moby wrap while I sorted out warming up the dinner that my lovely boss had given us (yummy spag bol with garlic bread), put lil miss to bed, bathed the three big girls, put them into PJ's, fed them, lil miss woke up and screamed for all of about 2 mins then gave up, and at 6.30pm breathed a huge sigh of relief coz both gremlins went to bed!

And that is a day in the life of a madwoman! Congratulations if you're still awake, I know I'm struggling to keep my eyes open!

How did your scan go Blondy?

Huge congrat's to you both and your families. Hope you are all doing well. Very exciting!!

Kateandahalf - I totally agree with you about the whole guilt thing with formula feeding. When breastfeeding didn't work out with Georgia (due to me being quite sick after she was born & low blood pressure - not much milk etc) I felt so guilty. I felt like an utter failure that I couldn't 100% breastfeed my child. I keep going for 3 mths - breastfeeding and comping with formula - until the total switch to formula. I felt that even though we had to comp - at least I gave her a good start and she's thriving & that is all that matters most! It is so hard with all of the press pushing breastfeeding - when I would give Georgia a bottle in public I felt like I had disapproving eyes looking at me - older women were the worst! I don't blame you for writing that letter midwifery council - I applaud it! They need to made aware that there are lot of disgruntled formula feeding mothers out there who need more support

Still sick here & just sat down after doing all the house work - how stupid am I! Loads of washing piling up and had to get it done before it rains constantly for next couple of days - the dark clouds are rolling in & want the Norwester to dry all my damn washing! Matilda has suddenly gone from pooing every few days - to every damn nappy! We have had 3 changed of clothes in the past 24 hrs! GGGrrrr.

Hi to everyone else. I can't believe I still feel so clucky even with my own to cuddle - in fact I think maybe I'm even more clucky!!!

Emma it's that article that gave me the idea to write my letter to the midwifery council - that, and talking to other women. I'm shocked at the number of women who use the word guilt (myself included) when they refer to formula feeding and I just think it's wrong. I'm very pro breastfeeding but agree that formula has a place. As far as I'm concerned Plunket have been the only group I've been involved with so far who aren't in breach of the code of practice for health practitioners.

I just put Ollie in his cot for the first time!! He looks so tiny - doesn't even make it up to half way. He must be happy there though 'cause he's fast asleep!

Emma do I need to join photobucket in order to post photos? I really ought to get my act together this afternoon and post a couple!

Magazine on formula feeding Kate? I co-wrote it and in it somewhere is the Code of Practise for Health Professionals when it comes to breast milk substitutes and one of the clauses is that health professionals must be able to provide accurate, unbiased info on formula if asked, and must refer on to another health professional if they feel they can't meet that obligation. Yet in my personal experience that doesn't happen. My midwife was great about the gremlins having formula , as were Plunket, but that was only coz they were twins so there was less expectation that I would breastfeed, when I had to give Maya formula top ups I didn't get anywhere near as much support.

I'm in the process of writing to the midwifery council (sorry if I've already said this!) about the fact that I think it's unethical that midwives don't learn about formula in their training anymore. What about the women who have breast cancer, are undergoing radiotherapy or are on necessary medications that mean they can't breastfeed? Or those who've tried but can't, or who just don't want too? I also know a pharmacist who has been told she's not allowed to advise parents about how to use formula!!!

Anyway, that's my little rant for this evening. In the meantime, I'm just feeding Ollie as much as he wants - he seems to make it to four hours most of the time and is managing 150mls each time. I just wish there was more info out there for extra anal rule governed mummies like me!!

WHat an awesome sleep! Chiara did 7 hours the night before last, and has done a few 5-6 hour stretches, it's amazing coz the gremlins never did more than 2-3 hours , I remember at 9 weeks they slept for 6 hours and I thought I was in heaven - but that was only coz they'd screamed for 20 hours straight prior to that and were absolutely exhausted! They didn't do it again till 4 mths...

Sarahbetha - it's prob easiest to check Ryan to see if you have thrush coz it's hard to see on your nipples but baby will have white spots inside his mouth. Check before a feed tho coz their mouths get a bit white and furry after a feed from the milk. If he's got it chances are he's passed it to you via feeding, it makes your nipples feel stingy/burny and sometimes itchy.

My epidural experience with Maya was great, I was in agony after 30 hours of labour and the anesthatist was a legend, very competent and professional even with me screaming in pain. I had the same anesthatist with the gremlins and he was great again altho the epi failed so I didn't get my pain relief. It actually suited me tho lol, the OB had insisted on an epi to help them control the labour so it was inserted prior to induction but I was pleased to be able to experience the labour with no pain relief to dull it. Even after two pain relief free labours I don't regret having the epi with Maya, I couldn't have survived the labour without it!

There was a wee prick when it went in, but other than that, it made my life livable - so much so that I slept through the first stage of labour! However, it sounds like you've got some things going in your favour - being 3-4 cm dilated is great (though it would be greater if the baby got the message) - it means your cervix is more "favourable" and would likely respond better to induction.

Blondy - big hugs. Now the little bugger is refusing to go to sleep. AND (today is a good day), we got discharged from the lactation consultant cos he's feeding so well. Weird dreams are perfectly normal too

If you're going to have the epidural as well, take it from me, it's really not that bad (and I had to have it done twice). They use a local first which is only a small prick, just like the blood tests we've all had to have. I think it helps that you can't see what's happening. The hardest part is curving your spine forward for them (them: "can you curve forward just a little more?" me: "have you not noticed the giant belly in the way?") and then keeping still.

My DH has quite the needle phobia, if we're watching some medical drama on TV and someone is putting in a needle or slicing someone open he has to look away. So he was holding me for the epidural and deliberately not watching. However the lovely anaesthetist was describing what she was doing step by step and she was halfway through putting the first epidural in when my mw suddenly said "Dave, I think you better sit down" and sure enough he was a wonderful shade of pale green, came *this* close to fainting on me, just listening to the description! When they decided to re-site the epidural 3 hours later he left the hospital, went and got himself some McDonalds

What do you do about reflux?? I told the midwife (who was here at home this morning) that she was still spilling, but she didn't seem too worried about it. Matilda has put on 220 grams since her last visit a week ago - which she said was good and perfectly normal - and that she wasn't being under or overfed.Would be interesting to see what she would be if she wasn't still spilling up so much! Some feeds she is pretty good and doesn't spill anything - but others are bad and I have to end up changing her clothes because she has soaked through 3 layers after spilling all down the front of herself. Sometimes I put her bassinette on an incline, try and keep her more propped up when feeding & burp her over my shoulder - which does seem to be helping to get more wind up. She hardly burped at all in the first week or so. She is a terrible farter also!!

We sure do produce fine stock!

Huge congrat's Mille on bub's arrival. What a lovely name! Hope all is going well and will be interested to hear what Ollie thinks of him!

Weegee - that sucks about your insurance company!!

Spicey - how exciting - sounds like it is all happening !!

Flissty - glad to hear you've got help at home and that your DH's Mum is coming to help. You are very lucky. I was so sad when my Mum went home - I only had her for a week & then then Michael had to go back to work a couple of days after that. I still can't believe I can manage the two of mine at home by myself. I was REALLY nervous about it.

Kaelanismum - glad to hear the feeding is going well. It IS weird how similar our 2nd births were eh!

Thanks Emma - Finally got Tilly down after 1am and she still wouldn't settle for a bit. We just let her cry for 5 mins. She woke again after 3 am. Grrrrr. Was so tired!! Then took a good hour and half to feed & settle & projectile vomit in the cot - then she woke again just before 7am. Am so hanging out for her to sleep longer! Can't believe that last year with Georgia I was so pedantic about her being feed every 3 hrs when she was a newborn, that I used to set my alarm in the middle of the night! This time with Tilly....no alarm......I say sleep girl sleep!!! lol.... Your dinner sounds "Yum Emma - hope you all enjoy it.

Hi to everybody else.

Been crazy busy today & this afternoon was so exhausted - needed to go off to have a lie down - luckily I managed to get both girls down for a nap too - although Tilly did cry for ages & didn't settle for at least half an hour. When I woke up it was getting dark and both girls were still asleep. I've not fed Georgia her dinner and Tilly will be waking soon for her meal. Luckily, I made tonights dinner last night - had a big cook up while Michael was dealing with the girls - and all I had to do tonight was place the casserole dish in the oven! Details are in General Chat, but Sebastien Joseph arrived this afternoon weighing 3.2kg after a hard labour, she got her VBAC tho yay! Huge congrats Millie, DH and new big brother Olivier!

Good luck Spicey, hope the internal gets baby moving!

Bugger about not being able to drive Weegee, I agree with Flissty, we'll have to have another outing to celebrate your independence in a few weeks! As for feeding, my m/w has a theory that you shouldn't feed baby more than 2 hourly as they learn to snack feed instead of taking a full feed, and it's worked for both my breastfed babies. For example, if you start the feed at 2pm offer the first breast, change then the second for up to an hour, but finish the feed by 3pm. Then if bub won't settle instead of feeding again, try other settling techniques such as rocking, patting or leaving bub to self settle, but don't offer another feed until at least 4pm. It gives the breasts time to fill and ensures bub is hungry enough to have a decent feed. Hope this helps!

Will be back more later coz am in the middle of cooking dinner (sausage, potato bake and broccoli, am quite proud that I managed to get it organised even if it is a pretty basic meal!). Midwife came today and lil miss has put on 300g in a week so she's much happier with that than last weeks pathetic 60g gain.

Damned insurance companies. I know what you mean about cabin fever. Two and a half weeks to go, then you can escape! We'll have to plan a meet up to celebrate your independence (and the arrivals of babies Blondy and Spicey).

We had our second expedition today to a Parent Centre course - thankfully he slept through (am not quite co-ordinated enough for a public BF!). Am feeling quite chuffed - he was awake just then cos he'd wet himself through (honestly, this child just eats, poos and wees, usually simultaneously) - changed him, topped him up and now he's asleep. And I did it all by myself . It's the little achievements in life that add up!

So no heading to our first coffee group tomorrow and no other outings for another almost 3 weeks. I'm starting to get a little stir crazy here - it's not as bad as the 2 weeks in hospital as at least I can go outside and do things like feed the calves and pigs, or even jut sit in the sunshine on a nice day like this, but I haven't left home since coming home. Might have to get DH to take us for a drive somewhere, anywhere!

Here's hoping JJ's sleep lasts a little while - I'm off to try to get a nap at the same time. Have a peaceful afternoon, everybody with babies, and get a wriggle on, babies that haven't arrived yet!
