Nobody is above suspicion. Except Craig and Chris, who were both out of the country when one or other of the murders happened. Or were they?

COULD THE KILLER BE A WOMAN?
It could. And the police do have a few women on their list of prime suspects. But you can expect that list to constantly change as new evidence comes to light. At least ten of our characters will become suspects at some stage of the story. Any one of them could be the killer.

TEN SUSPECTS? SO KIERAN, MARK, STEVE, JOEY& WHO ELSE?
Wait and see. There are quite a few suspects that most people don't seem to have considered yet.

WHEN WILL THE KILLER BE REVEALED?
The case will be solved before the end of the year. But the story isn't over once the killer is revealed. In fact, that's when it starts to get really interesting.

SO WHO DOES KNOW WHO THE KILLER IS?
Only me and a small number of staff writers. Our regular scriptwriters haven't been told. And none of the cast and crew have been told. I believe that at least four of the actors think it might be their character.

HOW CAN YOU KEEP IT A SECRET?
We're employing a great deal of subterfuge. We've written three different endings for the story, featuring three different serial killers. And they're all plausible resolutions. When the time comes we'll shoot all three. And they'll be scripted in-house, so not even the freelance scriptwriters will know which version is the one we're actually using. We want to keep everyone guessing and we don't want anyone spoiling the fun.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO INTRODUCE A SERIAL KILLER?
Several reasons. Firstly, there's something compelling about any kind of story in which there's a "monster in our midst" - whether it's the shark in "Jaws", or the spectre of witchcraft (or communism) in "The Crucible", or the hideous creature from outer space in "Alien". Anything that threatens an entire community tends to test people's relationships and raise all kinds of issues of loyalty and trust. And when the police become involved it often calls into question our fundamental rights and freedoms. Ultimately, it can highlight the divisions between people or it can unite a community with a common cause. Or both.

Secondly, serial killers are just fascinating. How many books and movies have there been about Jack, The Ripper? Those murders took place in the 1880s and were never solved, yet everybody knows about them today and there are people still trying to solve the case. And there's a long list of contemporary serial killers who are virtually household names: Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz (aka Son of Sam), Peter Sutcliffe (aka The Yorkshire Ripper), Jeffrey Dahmer, Ian Brady & Myra Hindley (The Moors Murderers). We're simultaneously repelled and intrigued by these people because they pose some very unsettling questions. Are they "evil" or "insane"? And what is "evil" and "insane"?

One of the interesting facts we uncovered in our research is that the medical profession is massively over-represented among the ranks of serial killers. There is a long list of nurses who have killed patients, either under the guise of "mercy killing" or because of a psychological condition known as Munchausen's by proxy (in which they derive excitement from medical procedures). Harold Shipman (aka Dr Death) is thought to have killed up to 200 of his patients over several decades. And, of course, one theory has it that Jack The Ripper was Sir William Gull, who was Queen Victoria's surgeon.

The serial killer story is also a kind of writing challenge. I wanted to do a classic "whodunit?", rather than a straightforward suspense story. Other long-running dramas have had serial killers, but they almost always show us who the killer is from the start. We watch because of the inherent suspense: "who will be killed?" and "will the killer be caught?" But long-running dramas rarely play the mystery angle of an unknown killer because it's fiendishly difficult to sustain a mystery over many weeks or months. It involves a great deal of intricate plotting and the continuity nightmare of keeping track of all the evidence and clues in such a way that the audience doesn't get confused or hopelessly lost. but why would the doctors have to be practising on the bodies. they have said with each death that the killer looked like they were practising techniques but justine for example would already know everything

nobody knows who the killer is yet except for a handful of actors that were in the scene and the producer plus a select few script writers , all whom are under strict confidentiality contracts, the site i get some info on is full of theories that its a girl killer but at the moment thats all they are, theories.

It would have to be a tall girl! I figure it can't be joey cos he was at the pub with the under cover cop when brenda was killed ditto Kieran. Gavin and Dr D were the only two main suspects in the hospital at the time, my husband thinks its some random that we have actually not me yet. OK I have another theory that I'll throw out there...

The new nurse... She's an undercover cop. Reason being the first thing she did when she started was make friends with all of the suspects...would also explain why she's so hopeless at the nursing stuff, and she's been caught out with things that she's said about her overseas travel that don't add up.

Also Mr Pumpkinhead was watching her when she was at the nurses station just before Brenda died. She didn't look threatened at all.

I think it's Gavin. Brenda got Justine & Scotty into the meeting, so it must be someone connected with Justine - Gavin works in her department. yeah she said we will find out before xmas..that's like 6 weeks *yawn* he was fired..doesn't mean he went anywhere:) it's been narrowed down to joey, Callum, and Scottie but i bet it is someone really random.. the height etc seems to suit someone as tall as Callum but bigger...:) like steve:) hehe.. !

Steve isn't even in the show anymore, he got fired for theft and we haven't seen him since. Plus he had an alibi for one of the murders. I thought Joey was at the party? It didn't show him leaving at any stage or anything... bluh I have no idea who it is and I'm also getting over it (will still watch it though!!!)

Did you notice the little bit of arm skin that was showing when "he" injected her? I did but didn't take long enough to notice whether it was white or not.
I was wondering though if it might be Callum - he's tall enough, was wearing a black cloak and showed up late to the party? I still like Joey for it though.
Typical of them dressing all the suspects in black cloaks for Halloween.
Don't think it would be Scotty because why would Brenda call a meeting with him if he was the one injecting people? Will be interesting to see if Yvonne remembers any other names from the files she got as it is probably one of them.
