We use PawPaw Ointment for cradle cap and it is BRILLIANT. No the paed said to steer clear of them all and to use aqueous as a soap substitute. He has an allergy to cows protein so didn't get the ezcema till with made the switch to formula, but now we have neocate on script so hopefully that will clear it up.

I agree - its no big deal really, but I have found it good to do the oil daily, as it just keeps it at bay.

Cohen got his at around 6 weeks, and it just kept building up, I was putting almond oil in the bath, but it wasn't working, once i started doing the oil directly on it and brushing it went away really quickly (took two weeks).

All my kiddies have had ezcema (mildly), so I don't like to use any of the standard baby products. I just stick with mild soaps, and almond oil, but I have heard that some babies can't even have that much

Hey 3boys, I can't use any soaps on him cos of his ezcema, i'm not overly concerned about it as it is no where near as bad as when he was first born was just curious as too how long it can hang around for.

We have just managed to get rid of it.

I massage almond oil directly into it every night in the bath (makes his skin nice and moist too) and the use the baby brush swiftly over it to help the dry bits flick off - it has taken two weeks but has worked a treat.

I also found the normal baby soaps to cause his skin to be really dry which I think made it worse so I just use the ecostore baby soap and thats much better - have also stayed away from shampoo as that made it really dry.

Jack still has it but he has so much hair you can't see it and I'm dreaming if I think he will let me pour oil on it and then scrub.

I put oil on it an hour or so before bath and then in the bath I lightly scratch it off and then give it a good rub with a towel. Briona's my excema kid. I just remembered that she did still have some at 18-24mos, by then her hair had covered it up and someone (MIL?) pointed it out to me LOL I don't think she has it anymore though but I'd have to go looking!

Ok, he has ezcema so maybe thats why it has stuck around so long. I'm not particular bothered as it is only very mild, just wondered really. I remember one of my nephews having it when he was 1!!
So yes I think it can be normal.
You're probably tried other stuff.... what I found good was massaging head with an oil (there are allergy friendly ones if necessary, I used pure olive oil) massaged into scalp (which baby loved!) about 15 minutes before bath. Then a baby shampoo, and you can even use a gentle baby brush.
After doing this for a few days, the cradle cap was gone, and I just made sure I olive oiled the head up once every fortnight for a month or so and it hasn't come back.
