I used to have blonde hair, but its gotten rather dark over the years. I can't afford to keep getting highlights so when I do get them, I get them put under a layer of hair (if that makes sense). Basically my hair is below my shoulders and I do it differently all the time (I get bored easily). With having the highlights under a layer of hair, I can show them by having my hair half up or in a ponytail, or if I part my hair on the side. If my hair is out, you can only see them through the movement of hair so it doesn't look like nasty re-growth.

Go for it....its just hair at the end of the day. Fiona I would say your hair is about as dark as mine is naturally. I used to get really blonde blonde foils put in my hair and they were toned down a bit to make them look nice (almost like a light caramel colour) I can email you a pic of my hair if you want just PM me you email addy and i'll do that for you.

I love getting highlights, you can get away with leaving it a bit longer than a full colour as the regrowth doesn't seem to show as much (depending on the colour). Mines coppery brown with blonde highlights.. I got it done when Cooper was a month old..made me feel quite pretty for a whole day... then the next day came and I couldn't be a*ssed straightening it myself...so went straight back to being boffy...

Going back tomorrow for a touch up.. I have blonde highlights, as my naturally blonde hair has gotten mousier with age, and I have alot of grey now. When the gray percentage hikes up a bit more, I will just let it be, as I think It will be silvery, so quite nice.

I get foils, you need less maintenence in between, and its a more natural look. You can get lowlights as well, easoer to maintain. if you want a change why dont you get your ears pierced (are they already i cant remember) or your nose or belly button.

I have highlights - usually only costs me $65 for colour, full head foils and haircut (but that is small town prices!). My hair is really short and brown, but I usually get a coppery colour through my hair then some blonde and lighter copper highlights. I should do it every few months but it dpends on finances - they tend to blend in quite well as they are growing out so no biggie. Already got the mega layers and the side part :) Had the layer thing for years an years but layers are definately better for me than one length.

I would def only want a few highlights as mega highlights would be too much with the dark base and would be hard to grow out.

Ive had highlights and they were pretty high maintenance..i think it cost me about $140 for the first lot and then about $60 - $70 once every 2 months?
Then i went BLACK and ive had to stay dark ever since.

I felt like a change a few months back and decided to try one of those celebrity side swiped fringes... bad idea!
I gave it time to grow out and then got my hair cut and layered.. now that i have a GHD (i have curls usually) i have a completely new look..

Do you highlight your hair? If yes, do you find it high maintenance?

It's a friday so indulge me in this pointless banter...

I'm having a blaaa patch where I am totally over being me and what to break out and try something new. I have long brown au-natural hair and fancy a change but am scared as a colour change sounds like a big committment! Definately don't wanna chop it off as it's taken an age to grow.

What do you do when you feel like you need a change? Inspire me :)
