I took a pack of stayfree and libra and used the ones from the hospital and then had DH bring me in a packet more or less each day.<br /><br />i was sore and wanted the stayfree ones.  I used them for the first week and then moved onto the libra ones and then some good night ones before weaning myself down to pantyliners after about 4 weeks!!!]]>

I found I really only needed for the first 7 days or so and was still in hospital so used theirs. You can sneak some out from the hospital too (pretty sure they'll let you take some). Most hospitals supply them while you are there and for me the first 3 days were the worse after that it was only like any period and by two weeks mine had stopped altogether. So I would maybe buy two packs and see how you go after bubs is born. ]]>

They would be ok after the first few days tho. I would definitley go for the really thick ones for the first few days - Stayfree are good and the Budget super pads are thick but not quite so long (and cheap, less than $3 for 20!)]]>

I know there is some mums that make these to wash and they say they work awesome.<br /><br />On the maternity pads. For the first week yeah you will need them. They are great however. I even use one over the cesear scar to make sure there is no moisture near the wound. And I think in the long run the other pads will cost you more expensive. So rather get the maternity ones. ]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=11730">MILF</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 12198<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 12 November 2007 at 2:29pm<br /><br />yea they are different.  for one thing, the stayfree pad are really thick, they seem awful, but if you have a vaginal birth you will bless the soft cushy feel of them!  and they are so much more absorbant then the normal ones.  often after birth you will have a lot more bleeding than a normal period, and also some small blood clots passing is normal (well i had them!)  i know it is expensive but you do need them.  stock up when they are on sale!  i had stayfree for right after the birth, and then the libra ones when i wasnt so sore down there.  although because i was in hospital for so long after jordis, they supplied all my pads, and i didnt need to use my surfboards <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley8.gif" border="0"> ]]>

My m/w said make sure I got mat pads not just normal ones as they tend to make you feel like you've got more 'coverage' in case you bleed a lot.
