Thanks heaps ladies I'm all sorted for a midwife now. After a bit of further investigating I have found that the new maternity wing at Waitakere does have a specialist service and even a pre-term baby unit (just in case). I've decided to go with the "Maternity Matters" group in Henderson, spoke to a lovely lady there and she is happy to take me on - so panic over lol
I have my first antenatal visit next Friday

When I was looking, I contacted mama-midwives.co.nz They emailed me a list of independant midwives & midwifery groups in west auckland - a lot of them weren't in the front of the phone book, so it was really helpful. It also tells you what hospitals they work at. I ended up finding a midwife from that list. My midwife is Angela Kitcher. She's with 'The Midwives' which are based in Green Bay. Ph: 825 0333. I think they go to National Womens as well, so you could maybe try them or else look up the mama-midwives website & get them to email you a list. I have been recommended Gill MacGregor (but I can't seem to get hold of her after leaving 2 messages!) Can anyone recommend another independant midwife that is contracted to National Womens?
