Author: AnnaD
Subject: 1229
Posted: 04 December 2005 at 7:09pm

Argh... I got it wrong... I was sposed to have 32 points!!

Alright, here goes...
From the WW breastfeeding mums programme...

DAILY POINTS:

MUM SHOULD EAT BETWEEN 26 AND 32 POINTS.

GUIDE:

Baby aged to 6 months on breastmilk only, mum to have 32 points

Baby aged 6 - 9 months on breastmilk and solids, mum to have 30 points

Baby aged 9 - 12 months on breastmilk and increased solids, mum to have 28 points

12 months + or until breastfeeding finishes, mum to have 26 points.

If you suspect your milk supply is decreasing, seek help from breastfeeding assoc and try adding extra four points.

TO GET ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS:

It is recommended you eat:

7-8 serves of veg
5 serves of fruit
2-3 serves of dairy products
2 serves of meat, poultry or fish
6 serves of cereal breads and grains.

Breastfeeding mums should also spend about 2 points on unsaturated fats.
1/2 med avocado (2 1/2 points)
4 tsp canola oil (3 points)
1 small can of salmon in spring water (2-3 points)
30g nuts(2 1/2 - 4 points)

Drink at least six glasses of water a day.

WEANING BABY:

As more solids are introduced and points are reduced it is wise to:
Reduce fat intake first
Gradually reduce serves of cereal, dairy, meat and fruit to level of reg members
Reduce veg serves last.

ADDING TO MENU PLANS:

1. Have larger helpings of certain foods:
meat/poultry/cereals/etc
2. Add extra foods
avocado/yoghurt on cereal/additional snacks, smoothies etc
3. Swap foods
Regular low fat yoghurt instead of diet
Olive oil instead of cooking spray
Olive oil based dressings instead of no-oil ones

* phew *

and finally there is an example of a menu plan with added extras for breastfeeding!!

This is def my longest post ever! Hope that helps!! Let me know if there is anything else I can plagiarise for you!!
