A friend of mine had an elective CS with her first baby, as she was completely terrified (like, waaaaay more than anyone else I've ever come across) of giving birth. She sat down with her OBGYN and was totally open and honest about how she was feeling, and between them they decided she would have the CS. I think that as long as your hospital will do elective CS's then you should definitely request one if that is what you want to do

I enjoyed the part when I was home and was in control, and my body was just doing what it was meant to,....but the rest of it

i agree - i think your experience in itself warrants you having a reason to go elective...

I think you have a medical reason for wanting a c/s. Also I thought that any women could choose to have an elective c/s even if there isn't a "medical reason" (although I might be getting confused with the UK).

Kellz my friend had a very bad first birth, MW didn't check to see if she was fully dilated and just told her to push , baby was posterior and she had all sorts of issues. She ended up for her second going with a dr as her LMC and having appointments with an OB to go over the birth. Her second birth ended up being a very straight forward VB.

However I feel that you warrent a CS if you want it. Ask the gissy people on here (and ex ones - Lizzle) about LMC's.

I totally think you are warranted in considering a c-sect, and I agree that finding a supportive LMC is the most important part. Thanks Annie. I would handle going into labour I think. I have good memories of the first 12 hours of my labour, when I was at home. I wanted to have a c sect with Charlotte after my experience with #1, but I just couldn't get into see the OBGYN here as one was off sick and the other was packed to the gills with "real problems". Our hospital dosen't do elective C sections here anyhow, so that might be something you might want to check out. Talk to your Dr, maybe, they would know about funding and who to talk to next etc. Good luck and I hope you get what you want! And for the record, I ended up having miss C Vb, and it was super easy this time... (and I eventually got an emergency appt with the sick OBGYN on my due date, who said she would be on standby when I was induced and they would give me a csect at the first hint of anything I couldn't cope with... Didn't help with the not going into labour thing, though...)

Electives are a dream!! My MW got a new job when I was 32 weeks preg,...so I was allocated a new midwife. I wouldnt want her again, and we have just moved towns anyway. I'm sure you can have a chat with any LMC just to go over your options, no one will blame you for wanting to do that pre TTC.

I take it you wouldn't want to use your old MW then? I had a really good chat with my old MW when I got to that "questioning" time at around 4mths post-c/s. She was fantastic then and when I was pregnant with Caitlin and wouldn't hesitate to book her again for #2.

I'm definitely having another CS even if the main reason for the first was is unlikely (she was posterior and had the cord wrapped twice around her neck).

So you could say that there is no reason for me to need another CS - but I'll certainly be arguing that fact, as should you.

I totally agree that you should fine an LMC before TTC #2. as far as I'm aware you can request anything you want, the issue is finding a public LMC/Obs.

With your history I doubt anyone would argue your decision.

Does anyone know if it is possible to choose to have an elective cs without going into labour, because of previous bad experience with vb with first baby, without going through private specialist?
I have PTSD and PND following Isla's birth, but does this justify having an elective cs without going into labour (in the eyes of the health system)?
