jake is officially enrolled for Aquatots classes at the lido. he's going to go staurday mornings, starting the 11th of Feb I think it is. I asked my plunket nurse yesterday, and she said for lessons she thought about 5 months, but apart from that check with the pool what their own age limits are, she did not mention anything about vaccinations etc. 

I cant wait to take my bundle swimming, he loves his baths.

Hallo, my son is 8 weeks old & I would love to start him getting his water confidence up as soon as he is ready. If that is anytime, can someone recommend where in Whangarei I should take him? My son was 12 weeks when I took him for his first indoor swim and he's been going ever since. We've even been to the water babies classes and he's learnt how to hold his breathe underwater.

He loves it and I have to drag him out every time. Personally I think all babies should go. They all seem to love it so much!

We took Paris when she was about 4 months, and she always loved it. We just always kept her head above the water. We have now started taking ayja s well and they both have the best time and it's something to do together that gets us out of the house and even mike is starting to like going too - and he HATES water.
Both the girls are great with water - paris used to put her face under all the time by herself - it has taken a little to get her back to doing that, but she now happily will stick it half under and blow bubbles. Maya was in the water at about 6 weeks, but then she comes from a family of swimmers - Mum, my sister and I were all competitive swimmers at different stages, and my sister now teaches babies/toddlers swimming lessons.

I didn't put her head under the water tho until she was 4 months, and even then I wasn't keen but Claire (my sister) took her off me and dunked her. Aimee - there are real cheapy wee pools at the Warehouse too. I heard 6 months for swimming too. I started Quinn swimming when he was about four or five months. Took him to the saltwater baths in Parnell cause for some reason that seemed better to me than cholrine? Who knows why?

My mum was always against it 'cause she thought I got so many ear infections as a kid from swimming. BUT I read somewhere recently (kicking myself as I can't remember where) that there is no evidence that suggests taking kids swimming results in ear infections, in fact some kids that went swimming got less ear infections! we were planning to get jake a pool too, and then a lovely man gave us a free one!! Yah! jake loves his as do I. we sat in it the other day with the umbrella over us. Lovely!!!

Am now thinking about getting a little pool for christmas - more for me than Hannah! One thats kinda deep so Ican sit in there and float her around. Aimee, I had baths with Jake for months and months. It was quite nice actually. I could also fill the bath really high and Jake could float about and I could even relax. then yell for lewis and he would take the wriggly slippery baby and dry him and dress him, while jake screamed. 6 months is what I've heard. We started after 6 months, maybe 7? Not sure.

I've never had a problem with getting bugs from pools.. I take Ella every week now, more now it's getting hot. She's had 2 ear infections since birth and they were before she was old enough to go into the pool! Go figure ;)

the classes around here start from 6 months. Apparently the chlorine kills most of the bugs (?) and its ok ear wise if they dont go under. Alyssa was about 7 months. But in saying that i have never taken my kids to the public heated pools. I think they are a germ breeding ground (the main thing i would worry about is ear infections). Thats just me though. So we only go swimming in summer at our local pool. Im on vice president of the committee. How old does your bubba have to be to go swimming? I have read two things - once they've had their first immunisations so 6 weeks, and another said 6 months!
