I've also decided that we may get some chickens this year. I can get my FIL to make a decent size chicken coup for them so they have room to move. And fingers crossed he may also make me a glass house so I can grow things throughout the year.

It was funny we had salad tonight for dinner and everything (apart from the eggs) came from our garden, the egg came from a friend of the inlaws place. It was so yummy.

Ummm.....what's wrong with being a 'hippy'? It's just another label anyway but to be honest I take pride in the fact that I would undoubtably fall under this title!  

I also have my own vege garden and make most of our meals from scratch. I buy organic, fairly traded and locally  wherever possible (and on a limited budget), refuse to buy from any of the 'big nasties' because of their corporate values (done that for donkeys years) use my bike or my legs to take me most places, eat a 90% vegan diet (the other 10% is strict vegetarian) and use eco friendly home cleaners where I can. I'm also constantly thinking of ways to make my footstep on this polluted planet a little lighter. I'm proud that I do this and I'm surprised that your friend makes disparaging comments about your attempts to do the same. I'm still ttc, so haven't faced the nappy dilemma yet but am investigating the best options for baby, me and the environment for when the time comes. I think anyone who makes ANY effort to help the environment is an absolute star, it sounds like jealousy to me....maybe she secretly wishes she cared as much as you do or perhaps would like to do similar things herself but is unsure where to start? Either way, don't stop what you're  doing..... you're leading by example which is the best way to do ANYTHING. You go girl!!

Wow Daphne that is great. I have to say it is so cool not having to pay those rediculous prices for veges at the supermarket (only bad thing is i'm spending the money on wine).

First month with the cloth pads was good, my MIL asked what I had put on my roses as they all of a sudden bloomed. I told her it was blood, I think she thought I was meaning blood and bone.

Sweet, I have an old wipes container floating around the house somewhere. This will sound so silly but I can't wait for AF to arrive this month .

Do you put Tea Tree in the container with the water like I do with the wipes for Josh??

Well she tried it again and then I brought up the cloth pads I had recently brought (but yet to use this month ) and showed her them, I couldn't resist rubbing it into her face that I was proud to be one (after the nice things you guys said). She couldn't get over the washing of them that the blood might stain the rest of the washing . I told her they would be rinsed first and then machine washed. I think I may have made her sick  with the thought of touching the pad after using it.

Now did someone say that they have used the water that they soak their used pads on their garden and it is wonderful stuff for it???

Meh, doesn't sound to me like she was even being mean!  Was she saying it in a disdainful way or just having a joke?  I know someone who laughs at her 'earth mother' friend plenty and it's just because her friend cracks her up with her hippy ways... nothing mean about it though. 

I forgot about the cloth wipes I use for Josh as well.

Seriously my friend has kinda upset me.

She came around and saw that we had dug another garden up for veges and that what I have already planted is getting ready to pick and eat. She told me I was a hippy for liking my vege garden.

Then she came around yesterday and saw that I had burnt the bottom of my big pot and asked what I had done and I told her I had made some tomato sauce and called me a hippy again as I was making sauce for myself and that we have pickled our own onions.

She has already made a comment about me using cloth nappies and that i'm turning into a hippy with my cloth nappies and vege garden.

Now I don't think I am as I see my nappies as saving me a heap of money (she still has a boy in sposies and its costing her a bit for them - this is her 4th year of buying sposies - 2 children) and my vege garden will also save me money as I won't have to buy veges very soon as I'll be eating the stuff I have grown.

Am I seeing a bit of jealousy??
