Liz, can you turn up before all the other people arrive and just set up in one of the rooms in the house? I think you guys have every right to be feel put out. If we had room Nikki, you'd be in the car! am hoping to find a babysitter over there but am running out of people - might have to contact student job search.

As for being around family 24/7, i get on with them really - well usually, but have been feeling really anxious this evening about it all. To the point of feeling sick and I really have to calm down before i can get any sleep. No I don't think you're being unreasonable to ask to stay in the house - how come her mates need the house and not a tent?? You've got kids, I wouldn't fancy the idea of tenting with preschoolers either - they could at least offer you guys the lounge. I'd go for the motel (which gives you a nice getaway to kick back if you've had enough of the family dramas anyway) and maybe ask the grandy's to babysit for a couple of hours too so you and DH can go on a date!

Gosh you are being way more resonable than I would be. I would be turning up to the families house kids and all and plonking myself and the kids there no matter what lol.

I totally third what GandT and BS said, go with the motel but puts down at inlaws until you return to the motel

we aren't giving her anything! she has specifically aske for money donations as they live in aus. I dunno... on the one hand it's not up to MIL/SIL to tell you what to do. And I kinda feel like, stuff it, go ahead and book a motel and then you don't have to hang around everyone 24/7 either. What about staying at a friends' place up there (cause that's where you've just come from, right?) or at least the boys could sleep over there and you could tent and get pissed too lol

But then I also think, aren't your boys old enough to have some boundaries about escaping etc? How long will you be staying anyway? Maybe my girls are just more docile than your boys... likely

can you not book a motel, put kids in cot beds there and if they get tired put them down in a bed at Inlaws and then take back to motel later??? I may be over reacting - so please tell me honestly what you think - i won't mind (I may write down names heheh

SIL is getting married in January. Initially I said to MIL I would book a motel and she said no, we are family, we stay together. they are getting married back in Gissy and the family home is still there. MIL mentioned a lot of people are staying at the home - it ahs a huge section so heaps of room for tents. She asked if we would mind (keep in mind this is last xmas we talked this over). I said no as the boys would no doubt escape. the back isn't fenced and leads to a creek - small, but still. And last year taine escaped onto the road when Lewis' uncle left the gate open. I said we would need a room.

fast forward. SIL rang and was asking us where we are staying for the wedding. DH said at the house - she said there may not be room as she has invited a lot of her friends from sydney and they have small children who will need rooms rather than the tent. She asked if we could stay with friends instead (who live down the road). i was upset at this. Our boys don't tend to sleep well away (remember the wedding in rotorua I went to where they recfused to sleep and we missed the reception). So i said for a week i would probably be stuck at someone elses home trying to settle the kids while DH went out with the family - or vice cersa. IO said this was not my idea of a hoilday.

DH rang his mum and asked her about it. she hummed and haahed and said it may be an issue. he has told her that either we get a room in the family house (keep in mind th house is three bedroom plus sleepout - in his family there are his parents, SIL and her bubba, other SIL and her bubbs - hubby in Iraq) and the other bro isn't coming) - or we will come just for the weekend and book a hotel. MIL is a bit upset at this, but I know that a phone call from SIL is coming where we are called unreasonable and "wrecking the wedding".
