But at night I felt terrible. She cried and cried and always asked for it, but I just told her "no more, its okay, you're such a good girl!" and cuddled her until she would fall asleep.

Thankfully by sticking to our guns, it only lasted 3 nights until she learned that she just wasn't going to get it. After the third night she would still ask for it but wouldn't cry when she didn't get it, only a moan.

It took about another week for her to completely forget about it and not want it anymore, then we gave her a lovely soft toy "Mr Monkey" which she adores and that is her bed-time friend now.

You just have to stick to it. You feel so mean at first, but once its over, its over, and its worth it! :o)

Be strong... you can do it.

I've given him all these toys and a ball in his bed but he still kept asking. I left him to it and within 10 mins he was asleep which is about the same as with dums so we might leave it.

I can't help but feel terrible, his wee eyes would roll back in his head when he had dums lol I think I might get him something special as a replacement so he still has something to love.

I don't know either. He has done well not having it for a few nights so you are possibly halfway there??? I guess I would probably see how upset he gets. If he is totally distressed and you are not bothered if he has it for longer maybe give it back???? I really don't know though. Ollie has one and I have no idea how we will get rid of it.
Good luck.

But then tonight (about 3 days since dums was last used) he was asking for it and has been really upset looking for it. Up until this point I haven't mentioned it at all so what should I say? Should I try and distract him or explain that he doesn't need them, or should I pull them back out and say goodbye properly?

Also how long until hes forgotten about them?

There is a wee part of me that feels so mean and think I should give in and give him his dums and let him choose when its time to give up. Argghh somebody tell me what to do I feel like either way I'll scar him for life
