This is what I've done:

1. Hot wash, no powder
2. Cold wash, 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup vinegar
3. Cold rinse, 1 cap of detol
4. Final cold rinse, water only

My nappies (pockets, inserts, fleece liners & wipes) all came out smelling as good as new

If you don't use a harsh brush it doesn't. I've stripped mine using that first method in the last week, and it hasn't done anything to the fleece. I washed my nappies and inserts in a hot wash first with no washing powder, then did the second step with baking soda and white vinegar. I did a triple rince so I got the vinegar out.

Does scrubbing the fabric with a brush make it deteriorate/thin out?

This is whats on my website.. theres 2 ways to "strip nappies":


Wet the nappy. Use a clean dish brush (make this your nappy brush) and brush the fleece with a small amount of dishwashing liquid. Give the nappy a good scrub and then wash in one full cold water cycle without washing powder.


Put nappies in the wash as normal. Add about ˝ cup of white vinegar in the fabric softener compartment and add some baking soda to the machine. Once the wash cycle is finished, pop them through another rinse cycle to make sure all the vinegar is out of the nappies.
