busymum - he has though about other avenues but it never makes him happy and he would never be an architect because i am! lol and he is forever moaning about them/us ("builders are always having to fix the architects F*** U*S!! because they never think practical"!!! blahblahbloodyblah!).....

Aw that's so sad for him - I know my builder DH would be completely devastated at the prospect.  Big hugs to you guys - ugh, patience is a virtue and all that blah de blah... stink news though.

well hes had 5 months of hand physio and 2 months of all round gym physio and at the beginning he was making so much progress but then it all stopped and has been the same for 3 or so months now.
I asked if he would need a further surgery to fix it further but there isnt anything else to do apparently?? the surgeon said that it will either take a long time to get full or most function back or he wont get it back at all which is what scares me and him because if he doesnt get full function back then i cant see him being able to go back to building ever again which is his pasion!

DH chopped off his thumb and half his hand (the palm part) and they managed to reattach it but as of yesterday the surgeon said that one of the major nerves (i think thats what it was!?) obviously didnt take and itsnt functioning! which is why his thumb still doesnt really move! and he also lost all the muscle and most of his thumb is still numb. A guy at work smashed 2-3 of his fingers and one had to be chopped 1/2 off - from what I gather. The ring finger was the one that he lost 1/2 of

He chopped off fingers didn't he Amber? Which ones? My BIL chopped some off a couple of years ago and was off work for close to 12 months. It was his left hand and he chopped off his ring finger completely (couldn't be stitched back on) and they managed to stitch his middle and index finger back but he has limited use of them. He took chunks out of his thumb and little finger but luckily didn't cut them off plus nerve and tendon damage to his hand. He got a nice lump sum payout from ACC though recently for a permanent disability for loss of limbs.

Hopefully your DH will be cleared to go back to work sometime in the near future!

lol yeah when he first did it i though "ah he can pick himself up and go back to work" which is what he was thinking also! then when the surgoen gave him a temporary note to be off work for 6 WEEKS! i was gobsmacked! but 8 months and counting!!!!!! what was i thinking!!!????

OH thats terrible!  Ive only been off work for two and half weeks now ... and Im bored to tears!  Although once our new arrival turns up things may change

And I have taken a note to remember not to chop off any limbs

the surgeon said no!!!!! DH had his surgeon follow up appointment so he could give him the all clear to go back to work and we were so sure that he would say yes but he said no!!!!!!!! and he said hed be lucky if he got back within the next 6 months!!! its been almost 8 months already and although it doesnt affect me as such (in fact is nice to have him home) DH is chomping at the bit to get back to work!!! he almost cried when the surgeon said no
