Rox - which Hannah Elizabeth?! Nikki's Hannah has the same middle name!

I have given up on this dummy weaning plan for a while. Its much easier just to give it. She was asleep at 7pm and she woke up at 5.45am, gave her the dummy and she was straight back to sleep til 7am. I think night waking has something to do with the cycle of the moon. When its a full moon or nearly full sleeping in our house sucks. jack has slept through (9-7am) from about 6-7wks and we've gradually worked into 7.30-7am. he does wake during the night though, i can hear him chattering to himself on the monitor, so cute

Last night was night 5 or 6 of Ella waking up and not going back to sleep for 2 hours +.. She cries but is ok when we go to see her.. this kid can scream for ages! She is not sick and her teething isn't bothering her during the day!!

Oh yeah she is waking at midnight and sometimes we're still trying to go to sleep at 3!!!! Anyone have advice? Hmm sleeping thru, my child seems to have maybe mastered that for the moment. He slept from 11pm til 11am from six weeks, I thought i was the most legendary mother out there. Until he hit three months and then he started waking up, on average five times a night. Now he sleeps at seven and SOMETIMES goes until five. I find now that I can handle dragging myself out of bed in the night but struggle badly with waking so early.

i lie all the time. it's easier, or you get "helpful" advice.
Jake woke up last night absolutely soaked!!!So we had to change him and the bed, which woke him up even more - then it was playtime. I was knackered! After he headbutted me, he went back to sleep and we got up at 7am....a sleep-in yah!!

Right. Had another episode with Demon Child tonight.
I felt sorry for her thinking that she was possibly having nightmares or had suddenly developed a fear of the dark (it can happen right???) anyway, didn't make any difference. She just didn't want to sleep.
I watched her and she was definitely tired, her eyes did the rolly-back thing but every time they went to shut she would squirm and try and stand up again to keep herself awake.

I have no idea how long I stayed in there (so isn't an issue of needing me for comfort) but I eventually gave up when I saw how much of an effort it was for her to stay awake. I left and she cried for about a minute and then gave up. Went in later to find her curled up in a ball upside-down at the feet end of her cot.

Is Hannah leading this baby rebellion?!?!?

and re: Mothers thinking that their children always sleep through the night - I can guarantee that it is selective memory. I think Hannah is a perfect sleeper (apart from these last few nights of course) and in a couple of weeks I will have forgotten about this week too! Ha ha that wind thing is cracking me up.must be true though.kinda weird eh.hey I also find that when I talk to other friends their babies all seem to sleep right through the night since very early on....makes me feel like I must be doing something wrong.My mum inlaw reckons half of them are just saying that....Perhaps they are just extremly heavy sleepers.(The parents I mean)

Lizzle, I always feel that way about other babies sleeping through the night!
She was so great before our holiday and now she is worse than ever at night.. last night she woke up again and wouldn't sleep for 2 hours or more..
I gave her bonjela as she was biting on something when I got her, but I really wish there was an answer!

Doesn't help when you ring plunket in the middle of the night and some stupid woman there (don't get me wrong, I've only had one bad nurse - her) tells you that at 18 months there is no excuse for not sleeping through the night! ha Roxy i am going through the same right now - i swear i have amnesia most nights as to how many times i have woken up to ayja, since she is just in our room i can get her up when she first strats to cry, give her a feed ans tick her back into bed and that's it, but it's been at lest 3 times a night lately between 11pm and 6am, so that's a fair amount. Quinn goes thru bedtime phases too... When he is sick I am more sympathetic and respond more to his crying, then I find that once he is well again he plays up thinking he can get the same treatment. Maybe she is just being sneaky?
But on the other hand, one day I was playing mean mum to a very upset baby, took him to the doc the next day and found out both ears were infected. Made me feel like a right cow.
So maybe get her checked out at the doc, and the if she is all good, ignore her crying?
(I am a mean mum tho, I swear Andy thinks I am mean when I ignore Quinn crying. But the smart fella that he is he doesn't say anything, knowing quite rightly that I would bite his ear off! Maybe it IS just a phase Nikki, cause jake is being a bedtime bandit too. I put him down at 7. He goes to sleep as usual, then wakes up about an hour later and won't go back to sleep. So i go in and check on him, and he decides he's getting up and runs off. And I'm slower than him at the moment, so he thinks it's a great joke. Then we go back to bed, and he screams and screams and screams. I've taken to having a shower at that time and singing loudly cause it drowns out the noise. by the time I'm finished, he's either quieter, or asleep.
Are you sure she's not teething? Jake was really upset last week which i thought was hjim being naughty, then found an eye tooth poking up in his gums ( which i thought you were supposed to get after molars - not befoer).
I think by going in i started a trend. he knows now that if he cries enough someone will go in. But it is hard to let him cry, especially when he's sobbing. Ella goes through stages of screaming to sleep and then being great.. before we went on holiday she had just started sleeping through the night, going to bed fine at night, waking up happy in the morning etc etc.

At present she stands up as soon as I lie her down in bed, then screams her head off for a while, she's getting better each night though (I think!).
But she is waking up at around midnight (or whenever we've settled into bed for the night) and cries for a few hours.

Hopefully for Hannah its a phase or something you can fix.. with Ella, who knows what is wrong.. I wish I could offer advice! I find with the boys that if they have an arvo sleep then i am stuffed for the night as they like to nap for up 2 1/2-3 hrs and then will be up all night. So now they go for a nap about 10am (after waking between 5-5.30am) and wake about 12.30-1ish. So i tire them out for the arvo and they go to bed great. She has just gotten over an illness as well.. so possibly she's feeling much better than she was 3 or 4 days ago and so thinks she can stay up and play later???

She has also had giant day sleeps the last two days so I'm wondering whether that is the problem. But that doesn't explain yesterday when she went to sleep fine straight off, but woke a bit later and wouldn't sleep?!?!?

Hmmmmmm... it's a possibility but she hasn't got a fever or anything. If she does it again tomorrow I might get them checked.

uumm how bout some headphones   If you know nothing is wrong with her ( get a doc to check her out as I had to before letting Jaidyn cry himself to sleep) then if you can just let her be. Alright, she seems to have screamed herself to the point of exhaustion.

Right. Presently my child is standing up in her cot screaming her little lungs out.

It seems that little miss doesn't want to go to sleep.

Last night she went to sleep fine but then woke at 10pm and screamed and screamed and screamed. Tried to settle her in her own bed. Wouldn't sleep. Tried to snuggle down in my bed. Wouldn't sleep. Left her screaming in her cot and I have no idea how long she slept, if at all, but I woke at about 5am to her screaming again. Snuggled her in my bed and she finally went to sleep though managed to push me off the bed with her squirming.

I don't understand. She isn't teething and has never done this before. My only other idea is that she is scared of the wind but even that doesn't seem to be the case when I gauge her reaction to big gusts.
