My surgery was originally booked as an outpatient meaning I was to be out that day. I ended up being admitted to hospital the week prior and had my surgery date bumped forward.
I spent 2 1/2 days in hospital after surgery cause mine went from a simple 45min-1 hour surgery to 5 hours. I still had keyhole surgery (thank goodness) but my tummy looked like I had been shot 5x.
That was 3 months ago still have some discomfort but that is due to my tummy muscles not being strong enough (had this surgery 1 mth after having an emergancy c-section.

I had a chat to my mum and if I get to have the op early next month then maybe she may come over and look after the boys for me.

My mum had her hystorectomy just after she turned 30, and she is sure that I will be having one within the next 10 years at least.

Pregnancy is the only thing that keps my endo at bay so getting rid of the cause will be good and thank god for health insurance so I can get it done when I need to get it done.

My cousin had a hysterectomy at 26 after no babies, poor thing.

I had a laporoscopy/hysteroscopy, reacted to the pethidine and had gas trapped really bad so stayed in overnight even though I was supposed to be out by 5pm. My gyne wants me to wait till i'm a bit older and I want to have another child.

My mum told me I had to wait till I was at least 30 to have it done.

Wow hers must of been bad to have it done so young.

I was only in for the day... although it was quite painful to recover from and if I had kids to look after I would have definitely stayed overnight!!

What does being under 30 have to do with needing a hysterectomy? My sister had endo so bad that she had to have a hysterectomy and she was only 23 and wanted kids at the time

I found the 2nd op great. I was up walking and itching to get out of the hopsital at 6pm and I had the op at 2pm .

I remember the gas pain, my mum told me about it when I had my first. I wasn't allowed to leave the hospital till I had passed some wind lol.

But then again, I am a bit of a wuss

Took me a good few days to be able to walk around comfortably.

OMG yes!!!! i've had 2 also, both early afternoon operations and was home late evening. the first time, i had such bad pain in the chest area i rang the hospital and asked if i should come back in....they explained it was the gas...lovely!!

I keep putting off doing the claim coz we have one more doctors visit or somethin scheduled, then I just don't get round to it, and now I'm not even sure where all the receipts are. My problem is that both times I have managed to get an infection it the belly button cut.

I think i'm going to stay i'm pretty sure my gyne's policy is overnight stay - and really I think I should i'm not paying anything so should make the most of it (yay for nil excess )

Mine was private and I left the same day...most painful part was the gas up under my ribs. I've had 2. I went privately both times with fertility associates but had 2 different surgeons. The first I was sent home one hour after I woke. The second time I had to stay overnight. It was nothing to do with my health...it was simply the way different specialists do it. I was 100% fine to go home both times but the second doc ALWAYS keeps his patients in. I preferred going straight home.

The pain is very very minimal. The hardest part is the gas pain under the collarbones. The first time it was unbearable. The second time I stayed upright in bed moved around more after the surgery and hence it was better. I had one years ago but I was already an inpatient so stayed in hospital.

I agree with the staying the night thing tho, when I had my last bladder surgery/wisdom teeth done (yes, at the same time!) I went privately and stayed overnight. I had a drain in and that wasn't removed until the next morning. I was definately happy to be staying, I really wasn't in any state to be going home the same day

Both times I was admitted to hospital prior to surgery and then stayed for a few days after. Personally if you have the option I would stay in hospital, just as surgery does take it out of you. Ann I don't mind - there is a thread so I saw my dr today.

My endo had come back again and as I want to have another child and i'm under 30 I can't have a hystorectomy just yet. I have progesterone issues (i don't produce enough) and far too much estrogen. So I have major issues with bleeding and excess lining.

With the one that I was scheduled to have in Dec (but didn't have as PG) I was scheduled to stay overnight.

HOLIDAY!!!

Meals brought to you etc...

If you can get the kids looked after, then defintely stay overnight as I'm sure the last thing that you are going to want to do is look after them straight after surgery.

I have had 3.. one was when i was admitted to hospital - so was there anyway. and the other 2 were day sergury and went home that night. Apart from passing wind alot afterwards I don't remember being too sore?? although a few years ago so could of forgotten. The first one was done before a major op so had alot of pain. Ok so for those that have had them what did you do after you had it done.

Did you stay overnight in hospital? or was it day surgery??

My first was day surgery and it was done at the public hospital. The second was private and was done in the afternoon but I went home at 8pm even thou I was meant to stay overnight.

This time I am thinking that I should do the overnight stay as it would pobably do me the world of good to have the night to have someone at my call all the time to help out. And have the boys stay at their grandparents place (hopefully they will have them).
