We were always anatomically correct with Christopher. Its always been a penis. But couldn't bring myself to teach him vagina so he decided to call that a front bum. My mum had a prolaspe repair last November and Mercedes went to school and told everyone that she had a broken vagina and was getting plastic surgery lol

Thats what I said and the head teacher said that as it was the outside bits its the vulva and the inside bits are the vagina.

Doesn't worry me if I have a girl she will be told its a vagina.

The vulva is only the outer genitalia and the vagina (excluding the labia minora and majora) is the basically  from the start of the start of the opening in the vulva  up to the cervix, so either terms are ok to be used as correct terminology of the female genitalia.

Nikki I too was the same about the proper names. As Andrew's pre school is doing keeping ourselves safe they have to say the proper names and vulva is the correct name and the vagina is the inside bit.

My 3 year old nephew goes around asking people "Do you have a penis?" or things like "Does Nana have a penis?" its very very cute, and we are all trying to not make a big deal out of it or laugh too hard, but its so sweet its hard not to giggle!

Living with my Mercedes nothing in this house is embarrashing lol. She keeps saying to Lesieli "you are a lady now you have BOOBS"  oh and the icing on the cake to me is when she goes on about  "is it that time of the month your vagina bleeds" I mean this kid is an open book. Nothing is sacred around her and poor Alize is going to know far too much im sure of it. I always remind myself its a good thing B'cos I will always know where she is at as she cant keep her mouth shut for a second if she tried

I say to Rico he has a peepee & I've started saying to Gia she has a "gina" shortened for "vagina". She thinks she has a peepee too. Rico knows that those areas are private parts & no one else is to touch them, they are only for him & mummy & daddy to clean, if need be. I'm starting to refer to things by their correct names - vulva and penis etc as I don't want Han to ever be embarrassed by the terms. I know I was!

ETA - AND I only just found out the proper word for "everything down there" was vulva.

Meh, if the people they are announcing it to aren't aware that mum has a vagina and dada penis, then they are either too young or too stupid to care! Only my Mercedes is prone to that sort of talk but Lesieli is alot more reserved and shy.  Hoping Alize is like Lesieli

I was just wondering as I have many parents ask my what they should call them for their kids. I just say teach them the correct terms, but also use what ever names you and your children feel comfortable with.

Andrew calls his, his peepee. But he does know that it is called a Penis as they do a keeping ourselves safe program for pre schoolers and get them to know what the real names are.

Yep Im the same as you mel. Not too fussed with what they call them as long as they also know the correct terms

I started off teaching C & N the proper names, but Nyah couldn't say Vagina, so she now calls it Fanny and she told me Penis is a yucky word, so she now calls it Willy. So we just go with that.

I'll probably teach Cooper that it's Fanny and Willy too.

It's one of those things that I'm not going to get stressed about if they want to call it that, so be it..

Are you going for the anantomical correct names or do you have other names you have taught them.

I always taught my girls the anatomic names but when Mercedes could talk  she changed it to front bum and back bum then when she got older she called hers a fanny and mine a vagina and when I asked her why she said "b'cos little girls have fannys and big ladies have vaginas with hair" LOL so I just let them call it what they want.

Now I dont know what I am going to teach Alize

Just wondering what everyone is or has decided to do.
