We went private to a well recommended one and it was $200 payable at the time. We ended up taking her to Starship A&E on the Monday morning as she could no longer walk. But at least we finally had a name for it so they could get the right DR (well sort of, anyway thats another story)to look at her. ]]>

Even my GP told me that first times need referrals but anytime after that you can self refer.</P>]]>

It cost us about $110 way back in 2000. It was the best thing we could have done he was fantastic and gave us a diagnoses straight away after about six months worth of mucking around from the GP.<br /><br />You could also get a referral to a hospital from your GP ie they can refer you to the appropriate Dr at Starship or your local hospital, but it may take a bit longer.<br />]]>

The one I went to  cost $150. You may need a gp referal to use your insurance though. I would phone your insurance and ask them.<br />PM me if you want his details.]]>

General Paed was the cheapest, allergy specialist was the most expensive with kidney specialist, eye specialist, ortho specialist all somewhere in between. With insurance you pay up front then claim it back. You'll need to get a referral from your GP.]]>

ALL the paeds guys in CHCH are fantastic, so either one of them will be OK to see.<br /><br />From memory, with insurance, its easier to pay for the first appointment and then contact your health insurer and as for price specialists range from anywhere between $100 to $1000 depending on specialty (my Mum's cardiac specialist charged her $800 per appointment <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif" border="0">) I think paeds would be on the lower scale of that range... <span style="font-size:10px"><br /><br />Edited by ShellandBella</span>]]>

I think you'd need to be referred to a paed, so you might have to take him to the Dr's first.  I'm not to sure on the way things like that are done, but when I've had anything wrong with me (ripped ACL) I've always gone to the Dr first, then they've referred me to the physio, and also to the Orthapaedic surgeon when it needed to be operated on.]]>
