It was awesome! The company we used have a limit of 4 children at a time per carer. He went to gym, music and playgroups. He bonded really well with both carers he had (his first moved to Chch) and I liked that he had the same carer everyday - it made me feel more secure and I think he probably settled quicker. The company we used only charges $4.00 per hour. When I have to go back to work after this bubs I'll definitely be giving them a call, I'm really hoping that his old carer will be available!

I think that homebased care would be a little more flexible with their hours too. Best of luck, I think homebased care is a great option particularly for younger babies.

They only take maximum of 4 babies so that way your child gets full attention (moreso than being at daycare centre) and they only have the one carer that they will form a bond with over a matter of time!

I can safely say ALL my friends who at one point put their children into daycare have now removed them and gone back to being SAHM's or have placed them in the Porse programme, their children were constantly getting sick and they were having to take time off work which defeated the whole purpose of putting them in daycare in the first place i guess.

They had a HUGE waiting list so had started a homebased care system as well as the daycare. Same price, similar activities and same criteria for being a carer. Our educator is absolutely lovely and loves Ella to bits. She also has her 3 year old son at home and 6 year old daugher (during school hols), but apart from that is only looking after Ella, so she gets heaps of individual attention. Also she is able to stick to Ella's routine and because she is with her all the time is able to notice if she is little bit more tired than usual and needs to sleep a bit longer- for instance on Tues Ella was really clingy in the afternoon so she gave me a call later on in the evening just to make that Ella was alright (which I though was really nice).

Ella still gets some socialisation as the 3 & 6 year old love playing with Ella, but she also gets the individual attention that she needs. The plan is we will probably continue with home based care until she is 2, then put her into daycare.

Also the advantage with home based, is that you can basically choose your hours and if you working parttime it works out cheaper (at least it did for us)- I pay $4.50 an hr.

Then they only have one caregiver they need to bond with, you don't have to wonder/worry about who is taking care of your child each day, and they will get much more individual attention.

Having said that of course finances come into account and childcare centres are generally cheaper.

So far it has been a good experience as Fay has socialised with the carers family and the other children. Check the child to carer ratio's, the company we use it is a miaximum of four children with a maximum of 2 under 2, but as I found out on tuesday the local council rule that if you have more than 3 children under 7 it makes you a business and need resource consent, so out Fay goes as she was last in, and I am in a bit of a panic for next week. That is by the by tho, but it does highlight a drawback, if you are in a centre based situation if a carer leaves it does not affect your child, but if your home based educator leaves, you have to resettle your child in a new environment, with new people which I hope is not too disrupting.
I love the personal touch from having home based care tho, it's always the same person you see and they really get to know your child.
and yep we have the minimum of 12 hours care a week, so we get by with our 17 hours, it pays to shop around the local agencies tho, as they may have different rules

So far, so good! Ashlee's a really social butterfly anyway so I don't have to worry too much because I know she loves it a lot. We pay $7 per hour but they do request a minimum of 12 hours a week (with this particular company). That's a bit of a pain for us as we really only need about 6-8 hours also, so we're spending extra money that we could be saving, really, but she enjoys it.

That said, Ashlee will go into a daycare when she's 2. Kylah will be almost 7 months old. Has anyone used home based care? I will only need it for 1 day of the week for 6 hours? What is it like and what does it cost?
Or am i better off putting her in daycare?
