We'll take Gina with us when we are out for lunch - cafe, pub, food court etc. She's well behaved and likes to share some of our food.

We've always taken the kids with us what ever restaurant we go to...we tend to eat out a bit but I would say now with two adults and two childrent the cost of eating out is getting expensive.

Love going to Yum Cha with the kids. I think the best thing is that as soon as you sit down the food starts to come out and that means they don't have to wait and therefore don't get bored. oooh i love the tea....and i love yum cha...but tell you what you get totally different food when you go with an asian friend or two....and it is mega cheap for soooo much food...you feel like a piggy there and yet you come out feeling ok not bloated....

nearly forgot - we took ella to cock n bull too - child friendly early evenings!!!

We want to try Breakers as well. I had intended to take the girls for Lunch during the holidays but they were so busy with friends we never got around to it.
Anyway we have always done restaurants with the girls but only casual ones. Places like Tonys are good they have kids meals and fun drinks. (But if we are going somewhere nice we like to go alone). When I was working we used to go out for breakfast every Sunday so they got used to behaving properly in a more relaxed atmosphere.
My biggest problem with taking the girls is that Natasha is so fussy I hate to have to pay for food she just wont eat, so we tend to go places where she likes the food.

We are going to try out Breakers with the four girls 1,6,8 and 11 years, they have a play area and pool tables etc and has food thats nice for adults. Helps when the adult to child ration is 2:1

I remember when Emily was 4 we went to Orbit at Sky City and she was banging her glass on the table and it broke ! We didn't go back to that restaurant.

We haven't done this, every time we've thought about it, we've then been like nah we haven't been out just on our own for a while so let's do that! LOL but our intentions are there for someday...

We've done a few wedding receptions though, with kids (in the family), took along some Fisher Price Little People they are great for on a table/high chair top to play with quietly - unless they are at the banging stage! Snacks are great for receptions too. We went to a reception once at 6pm and they started with speeches!!!! Entree was at 8.30. It was horrible, Hannah was 22mos and Briona 3mos and both were beside themselves with how late it was. It was out of town and family so we couldn't get a sitter - and B was bf. We cafe a lot and go to the odd restaurant for lunch. Noah's fine with it. Loves eating out really. I think it's important to teach your children about eating out from a young age - esp if its something that you are going to do quite a bit as a family. We always took Christopher out with us when he was younger too. He was always really well behaved. We never really had to do the toy thing (as in take a toy). We probably eat out or go out for coffee most weekends and Caleb loves it. He sits up in his pram smiling at everyone and generally gets made a big fuss of everywhere we go. Use to go out a lot with her in SA and she was as good as golden. Over here went a few times but as she grew older she wants to eat and get over and done with. This child has NO PATIENCE whatsoever.

We go still out sometimes but generally not in the busy times and keep her busy with something. We take Caprece all the time and used to take Jack but try not to at the moment (unless there is a playground) as he just runs around so its hard for us and not really fair on the rest of the restaurant. We had to go out every night when we were overseas, as we were moving around alot and no cooking facilities. Emma - Gabriella put away FOUR yes FOUR custard tarts at yum cha as well as rice, noodles, and a variety of other stuff....and i am sure they were egg custard too - so much for avoiding egg and dairy LOL!!!

I agree with Miss and Simsam - it is teaching the right behaviour early on...and some of the asian kids are best behaved in restaurants cause it is their way of life.

I tried when Elle was about 3mths. She screamed from the moment we got in the door...she did that anywhere we went. I ended up driving around and around for 1.5 hours while everyone else ate. We do Yum Char a lot too, my kids eat as if they were Chinese I swear, Maya can put away 4 BBQ pork buns and the gremlins love prawn dumplings and spring rolls. We've taken them to other restaurants too, and they've always been good. Yip we go to cafes, restaurants and we just took Ollie to the local pub for a meal - great place as there are heaps of other kids there plus there is music and a big TV screen - he loves it! Yep we take all of the kids out to Restaurants, we go to the Howick Club regularly, Lone Star, they are used to going to cafes for lunch and/or afternoon tea. They behave well. We do tend to take them out a little earlier though, say 6-6.30pm.

I'm not sure how we'll go once Cooper is older though.. that might be interesting.

I take Lily out to cares no worries. We went out with the inlaws to a restaurant the other night and she was awesome, I just made sure her afternoon sleep was later and longer so she lasted. I wouldn't do it too often but regularly enough so she can remember the experience. it is like learning a set ofbehaviour that she needs in a prticular palce, she can only learn it if exposed to it.

We went out for dinner when Ollie was 2mths old, to a local but nice-ish restaurant. I think we felt fairly comfortable doing it, we just made sure we gave him a bottle when we got there and then he was pretty quiet / sleepy the rest of the time. I think that we have decided that we really want our kids to know how to behave in restaurants as we eat out quite a bit, so we think we will start them fairly young.....(but hey - in reality it might be a different story!!)

Caitlyn was fine when she was around Gabriella's age, especially since i could just sit her in the highchair.
Was a bit more difficult when she was 3 and had a mind of her own and selective hearing.

We have taken DD to quite a few resturants, not really fancy ones but we very rarely go there ourselves. It was really easy when she was little - she was always very well behaved, we find now though that she gets bored a lot easier and its harder to keep her sittign still for long periods of time.

We have taken Andrew out on a number of occations but we have taken him to child friendly places.

The odd time we have taken him to a more "adult" restaurant he has been very well behaved as he has had his grandparents to look after him.

I used to work at Valentines in Mt Eden and we got loads of kids, its pretty family friendly. Fionas thread re dinnertimes made me think of this...

Do you take your bubbas to restaurants with you? Have you had good / bad experiences with their behaviour over a different type of lunch / dinner than usual? OR do you leave them at home and would never contemplate taking them to a decent restaurant etc?
