    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=10235">caitlynsmygirl</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 14442<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 13 February 2008 at 8:06pm<br /><br />As Gandt said give them a brush to play with , and wipe teeth with a flannel, when they are young and their teeth first come through there isn't much of a plaque buildup<br /><br />When they get a bit older use a soft brush (actually , always use a softbrush,for yourself as well,use a hardbrush and you get lines on your teeth eventually) and a childrens toothpaste, eg Colgate Milk teeth, and only put a small amount.<br />The key is to make it enjoyable and not like a chore, other wise your child will be like some of the patients we see who are 23 and brush their teeth once every 2 weeks (no sh*t) <br />I used to tell C to smile big like a monkey, to get the teeth at the front, and then open wide like a hippo, to get right to the back (or whatever animal you think of) <br /><br />]]>

I let them have the toothbrush while I do mine, then say "my turn", scrub all over (quickly) and put the brush away. I don't bother with toothpaste yet. Sometimes, if he is in the right mood, he will let me, but other times its a full on battle, so I leave him. I'd always brush mine at the same time and let them have a go first. Then I'd get in there and give them a scrub myself and sing&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;the toothbrushing song:<br /><br />I wake up in the morning at a quarter to 1, I think to myself 'lets have some fun!' and brush my teeth <br />Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch!<br /> <br />They crack up at my attempt at singing which opens their mouths, very handy!<br /><br />Good luck!]]>

And what did you do to start off with (your technique)? ...when are we suppose to start properly brushing them??? ...the majority of my friends still haven't started with their bubs and they have had their teeth for a number of months now...<br /><br />I have tried several diff approaches but Lucas STILL struggles and clamps down, will put up a right performance and not let me anywhere near his mouth <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif" border="0"> ...I find the muslin with a dab of toothpaste an easier option as opposed to introducing a toothbrush just yet ...but gosh he gets VERY upset and after all the effort that goes in to what should be a simple task, i doubt they are getting cleaned nearly enough as they should!<br /><br />Any better ideas?
